Deep brown coloured body with a thinnish, just single centimetre tall pure white head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of nuts, light earth, a dash of cardamom and canella with a touch of toffee and caramelised sugars throughout, showing toffee and some fruits around the edges more so than any malt or alcohol. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malty and especially toffee and sweet flavour at first with a big dose of grain, apples, pears and peaches, but the malt, oak, toffee and light spices finally hit towards the end and blunt all the sweetness. Aftertaste is robust and relatively clean - the alcohol pungency is gone and the sweetness remains from the fruit and browned sugars, but no astringency exists and it is surprisingly, a 'sessionable' barley wine as the front of the label suggests. Overall, a nice enough beer that shows some malty and especially sweet notes, but still has some alcohol punch and nuttiness that haven't been taken away. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from The Perfect Pour in Elk Ridge, Maryland on 18-July-2016 for US$5,75 sampled at the Vienna Metro Station on 26-February-2019 after about 2,5 years of aging in my cellar.

32oz growler filled the day earlier. Pours a clear ruby red brown color, small khaki head. Doesn't last too long. This is apparently sometimes referred to as sessionable barley wine, which I can understand. This really doesn't come off as your typical American barleywine. Aroma is mild, especially for style..Some toffee, light fruits off the yeast (faint cherry juice), and light sweet toasted malt. Flavor is similarly light with a bit of a jam biscuit and very faint dry toast biscuit finish Low bitter, low alcohol presence, lot sweetness. For the first half of the growler I was bored. For the last half I am happy at the mildness of this barleywine. I think I am starting to feel some of the alcohol finally.

Poured from a 16 oz can. Aroma is very malt forward with lots of toasted bread, caramel and toffee. Some light notes of burnt sugar, raisin, fug and prune. Hints of alcohol spice. Light pine resin and grapefruit notes. Pours a burnt amber color with red and brown hues and a small, thin tan head that recedes quickly and a small amount lingers on the edges. Faint lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet and fairly malt forward. Lots of caramel, toffee, treacle and burnt sugar with lighter toasted bread notes. Medium bitterness. Some light resin and grapefruit notes with a touch of a woody character. Light alcohol spice. Hints of nuts with some light raisin, plum and prune. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, lots of malt with a touch of hops. This is a very sessionable, but slightly boring barleywine. Nice malt complexity, but a rather simplistic hop profile.

Some caramelized malt, some light citrus but not a lot going on here. Some light smoke, but empty finish. Palate finishes pretty light. Pours dark red with good head and lacing. Just tastes like boring English strong ale. Some booze in finish. Tap at brewpub.
