A traditional scotch ale, caramel and malt sweetness dominates the palate. A full bodied ale that’s higher in alcohol content than most, making it a great after dinner sipper, but definitely not for the mild at heart.

Sample at the source. I'm sure I've had this before but now s the time to rate it. Deep auburn in color with a bubbly off white head that slowly recedes. Rich bready toasty maltiness with hints of fruit and a touch of smoke. Not too shabby.

Can at the January DC Ratebeer tasting. Poured a poured a relatively clear, kind of dark brown, ruby red color with a small white head. Aroma smells a bit like your standard scotch ale. Sweet malts. Light herbal notes. Very mild toffee.

Keg pour at Powder Keg Beer & Chili Festival. Aroma is strong, dominant caramel with some fruit and cereal malt. Appearance is dark brown (like root beer) with mild sparkle. Taste is quite sweet, but not overly so. Palate is medium bodied, average carbonation, has liquor in the finish. Overall, this is exactly as advertised with caramel and malt sweetness dominating. Definitely more of a dessert beer or specialty beer.

Draft from brewpub. Deep amber color in the pint. Great retention. Nose is a nice malt and sugar. Excellent flavors of caramel, candy sugar and some fruity German hops. This really is worth a try if you are in this part of NH. The hops balance the sweetness. I don’t taste the ABV at all. Very nice blend. Peter does a great job with this style. Well done!

A dark clear reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, light molasses and maple, some light dark fruits. In mouth, maple extract, woody notes, molasses, a bit of alcohol warmth, not bad, but more like a dunkelbock, with all these fruity esters. On tap at the brewpub, April 5, 2010.
