The sweetness of the malt in our Boathouse Brown Ale is offset by just enough kick from the hops.

Draught, 4.8% at the brewpub. Subtle but good roasted aroma. Very dark brown colour. Small tan head. The flavour is also roasted, a bit like the aroma, but slightly watery. Still nice, though.

Pours clear amber with tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, nuttiness and caramel. The taste has nice roasted maltiness moving into nuttiness and then earthiness. It ends with plenty of caramel notes and more nuttiness. Pretty nice tasting brown.

@CBC–22oz bottle-pours a light tan ring for a head and brown color. Aroma is roasty, sweet dark malt-chocolate/toffee, some earthy. Taste is roasty, sweet dark malt-chocolate/toffee, equal earthy/spice hops which the malt doesn’t quite hold up.

Pours deep brown into a shaker. Nice tan head with good retention slowly recedes to coat surface. Sour flat caramel from front to back.

On draught at the brewpub with Muzzlehatch, 5/21/2005. Hazy auburn-amber, with chocolate overtones, no head, no lacing, bit of fizziness. Smells of acidic mash of brown malt extract. Diacetyl. Flavor is simple sugariness, bit of dirty dish rags, brown sugar, ahhh I don’t know. I like to write alot about a beer, but you just can’t here. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation. Dry finish, astringent mouthfeel, like too much roasted malts.

Dark brown; nutty, toffeeish aroma. Sweetish palate with decent malt development. Toasty, toasty, toasty.
