Black IPA

On tap at Bottleworks. Pours a thinly headed dark dark brown with no signs of rising carbonation and weak aromas of chocolate and earth. Flavor showcases hop bitterness, but not a ton of hop character. Malt body has an almos dark fruit edge to it and the hops is complimentary in an odd way. Kind of a bit of resin and herbal hops thing going on. Decent but underwhelming.

On the hoppy side of the style without a lot of roast elements. Pours dark brown with great head and lacing. Finishes sweet from caramelized malt with a little bitterness but caramelization takes over on finish. Tap at Black Squirrel.

Charcoal nose. Cola brown, thin yellow head. Charcoal flavor, with a pruney sweetness. Little in the way of hops. More like a porter than an IDA. Enjoyable regardless.

Tulip glass draft at the Martin City Brewing Company in Martin City, Missouri. The pour is blackish brown, soft faint ruby hue, murky, with a smallish tan head. Nice lace left behind as the beer drinks down. The aroma is fresh cereal grain, soft toast, almost burning toast along some soft pine hoppiness. Clean and fresh nose. The taste is a nice blend between the soft roast, the pine hop, and the cereal and fruit grain sweetness of the malt. all flavors balanced nicely. The palate is light to medium bodied, soft natural carbonation, and earth and burnt toast in the dry finish. Easy drinking beer.

Draft. Almost black, beige head. Aroma of cocoa, pine needles, coffee. Taste is burnt espresso, bright pine, bitter finish. It works.
