Braumeister Selekt. This Gordon Biersch creation applies Eisbock brewing techniques to a bock made primarily from malted wheat. Eisbock was produced using a technique created by a forgetful brewer from the Kulmbach Brewery in Kulmbach, Germany, who accidentally left kegs of bock beer outside during the coldest days of winter. Our modern-day process involves freezing the water molecules out of the brew and removing the frozen portion, thus concentrating the alcohol and flavor of the resulting ale.

750mL swing top pours with a deep clear mahogany body supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet fruitiness in the form of dates and prunes and brown sugar coated figs with a thin ribbon of caramel rimming the aromatic experience. The taste is similar and is smooth on the palate with sweet ripe red apple that are lightly coated with brown sugar. It then heads into sweet notes of dates, figs and prunes. To midway some sweet caramel surfaces along with a malty note or two. This is smooth stuff with a well hidden ABV.

750 ml bottle from Bottles N Bins Liquors and Deli. Nose is light bananas, cloves, and hints of toffee and bubblegum. Lightly hazy rusty red with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet, ripe bananas, a hint of bitter, and a slight musty old ale taste.

Bottle provided by argo0, thanks! Poured a golden color with plenty of notes of light, sweet malts. Flavor was notes of malts, touch of banana and some touch of alcohol. This was okay.

Stewed apple aroma with banana accents. Clear maroon, thin yellow head. Clove and stewed apple flavor. Medium body, spritzy. Apple skin finish. I’m not crazy about this one, but an honest effort from GB, and one of the few weizen eisbocks available.

750 swingtop from Bine & Vine. Pours hazy dark ruddy brown with a tan head. Aroma of banana ester and dark "malt". Full bodied. Flavor is dark "malt", with definite banana ester. Finishes off the dry side - but a little sugar never hurts. It is an exceptionally tasty beer. Heat is detectable by the effect it has on blood circulation.
