Much like a certain popular candy featuring peanut butter and chocolate, Espresso Porter was a happy accident! The year was 2007. Palmetto had been producing an awesome Porter, and the folks at the coffee roasters next door were roasting some of the area’s finest coffee. One day, some of that Porter was inadvertently mixed with a little extra dark roast coffee, and the result was what we now know as Espresso Porter. Medium-bodied, not too heavy, and featuring the perfect blend of bold and sweet coffee notes, Espresso Porter remains the breakfast beer of champions across the Lowcountry!

Nearly black with a small, dark tan head. Aroma is dark roast, cocoa, espresso.... Flavour is a nice coffee/chocolate blend. A slightly ashy, overcooked bitter. Good carbonation, a bit light, but rather nice.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of queenholly. Dark brown pour/ bordering on black in color. Nose is espresso beans and roasted barley. The mouthfeel is on the flat side but that doesn’t matter since the flavor is nice. Strong espresso effect with light traces of chocolate, caramel, and some coffee bitterness in the finish. On the lighter side of medium in body. Bet this rocks on draft, any coffee brew lover should try this.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Charleston Beer Exchange, 12/7/12

Aroma: The nose is coffee malts, with some caramel and chocolate notes as well
Appearance: It pours a nice clearish brown color with a slight orange hue and a beige head
Flavor: The taste is a little sweet and a little roasty, fairly malty, with a light coffee bitterness
Palate: It has a medium body, leaning light, it is smooth, creamy, and a little chalky, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression:  This one felt pretty solid to me. It has a nice mouthfeel and a decent flavor. There’s a nice coffee component as you’d expect. Solid stuff, but I’ve had plenty of more interesting coffee beers.
