The Luchador En Fuego does not allow distractions when his work is before him. The crowd? Silent. The ref? Dazed. The Luchador? Soaring off the top rope, fiery limbs outstretched and eager to vanquish the opponent on the mat below. This complex Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout fills out a flavor profile with additions of cinnamon and vanilla for a lingering sweet finish. Ancho and chipotle peppers bring a spice that is balanced with aging in bourbon barrel aging, presenting bourbon notes alongside dark malt flavors.

Bottle. Almost black in color with almost no head. Aroma is chocolate, slight coffee. Taste is very rich, dark chocolate and some slight spice.

11/02/18. This one starts to one up chocolate sombrero nicely. More chilies (not too much more smokey), more vanilla and cinnamon notes. Slap a winter ale label on this and it can work both ways with the nicely spiced notes on the nose, peppery.

Bottle. Deep opaque brown-black body, thin brown head/ring. Nose of bourbon, roast, coffee, and coconut. Lots going on in the body, chocolate, peppers, cinnamon, and burning boozy heat; also hints of grape.

Keg at Sedona Charlottesville, 4/18/16. Dark brown, thin fizzy tan head, decent retention. Aroma of strong bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, raisin. The taste is strong bourbon, vanilla, caramel, roasted malts. Medium bodied, low carbonation, too much barrel character.

Sampled on draft at Vintage Estate this beer poured a black color with a trace tan head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was floral hops, hot peppers, chocolate and bourbon. The flavor was sweet, toasty and malty with motes of molasses, bread crust, chocolate, bourbon and a hint of hot peppers. Delightfully complex. Very long finish. Full bodied and smooth. Alcohol well contained. Outstanding.

Appearance and aroma are nothing special, but the flavor is divine. Judicious use of the booze barrels are subtlety evident and supportive of the bolder coffee, cocoa, black malt, flavors. Perfect palate. Fairly drinkable.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear cola with a tan head. Aroma of dusty cocoa. Favors of chocolate and chili with big bourbon notes. Very nice blending of some strong flavors. Smooth, bitter roast finish.

Bourbon, oak, coconut, and fudge nose. Clear brown, thick beige head, abundant glass coating. Bourbon, oak, prune, some chocolate hints. Vanilla and peppermint also present. Full body, soft carbonation, alcohol obvious. Tons of complexity, very boozy. Oddly, no chilies detected heat or otherwise. Much more of a bourbon bomb.
