The Luchador En Fuego does not allow distractions when his work is before him. The crowd? Silent. The ref? Dazed. The Luchador? Soaring off the top rope, fiery limbs outstretched and eager to vanquish the opponent on the mat below. This complex Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout fills out a flavor profile with additions of cinnamon and vanilla for a lingering sweet finish. Ancho and chipotle peppers bring a spice that is balanced with aging in bourbon barrel aging, presenting bourbon notes alongside dark malt flavors.

Bomber 2013 vintage. Aroma is real mild pepper at this point, barrel has mellowed but still shows. Good level of chocolate as well. They flavor is light on the spice (chipotle is mild) and shows me bakers chocolate and mild bourbon in the backend. Carbonation is mildly creamy and soft. The pepper has a very weak hint of heat. Very nice but maybe should have been opened about 6 months ago, that being said, still really nice.

Pitch black tiny dark brown head that faded fast. Smells spicy as all giddyup.Lots of sweet chocolate, faint raisin and port wine with a heavy rye whiskey. This is a little thinner than expected. tons of spice but the pepper doesn’t linger. This is chocolate for miles. just sweet, nutty like peanut, walnut and cocoa. Whiskey finish, lends a sweet dried fruit and cashew with simple syrup and rye. So glad this isn’t really spicy.

0.65l bottle from what has to be my secret santa. Just can't pinpoint whom it was... Anyhow, thanks! Looks really nice in the glass this with a thick and really oily black pour. It actually can bear some resemblance of pouring oil in a glass, and it's leaving a nice big kinda brown looking head that's leaving lacings. Smells absolutely amazing this! You immediately get the chili fruitiness here. It's sweet, there's vanilla and sweet dark chocolate blessed with something that reminds me more of whisky than bourbon. A lovely lovely nose indeed. Yup, it's as thick, chewy and viscous in the mouth as it was on the pour. A lovely mouthfeel with a nice prickling small bubbled carbonation level. The spicy chili is slowly warming the throat while chocolate, roasted makes, whisky and a slight alco warmth just tickles on my taste buds. It's not to hot on the spices, but it's really fruity and slightly smoky-warming. I get lots of marzipan towards the end and some wood is also present. This is a flavor bomb. Huge thanks for the bottle! 26.06.2014

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head. Aroma is malts, some liquor, bourbon on there for sure. Taste malts, lightly some roasted malts, bourbon, some nuts, vanilla, wood. Warming alcohol, perfect slight addition of peppers just like Berghoeve Hammer Brand Chili Porter (a Dutch beer, hard to come by but highly recommend), a hint of liquorice as well, a bit sweetish. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

22 oz. bottle shared by Debbie at Ale Alpharetta. Pours black, with a thin, tan head. The aroma is big notes of vanilla, chocolate and oak, with some toffee, caramel, and some light vegetal notes. Very sweet, no roasted bitterness, and a slight spiciness. Heavy body, very thick and chewy. Overall, this is a very nice chocolate stout, but I couldn’t find much chili spiciness at all.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/25/2014. A bit of a gusher upon opening. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, dark bread, light cinnamon, light chile pepper, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and light spice notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, light cinnamon, light chile pepper, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, light smoke, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and light spice flavors; with an awesome malt/barrel balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged imperial stout. Even though most of the spicing did not have big presence; the robust dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavor balance is awesome; and this is very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.
