The Luchador En Fuego does not allow distractions when his work is before him. The crowd? Silent. The ref? Dazed. The Luchador? Soaring off the top rope, fiery limbs outstretched and eager to vanquish the opponent on the mat below. This complex Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout fills out a flavor profile with additions of cinnamon and vanilla for a lingering sweet finish. Ancho and chipotle peppers bring a spice that is balanced with aging in bourbon barrel aging, presenting bourbon notes alongside dark malt flavors.

Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate with chili notes. And alcohol. Med + body. Flavor is chocolate and chili. Chili is not too strong, but nice. Goes well with Wild Boar dry saqusage.

On tap at the Cove. Pours a dark brown with beige head that leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is strong chocolate, roast, and peppers. Thick mouthfeel with rich chocolate malt, roast, and nice sweet finish. Very good.

Bottle - Chocolate, cinnamon and sweet roast malts. Jet black with a thin head. Spicy chocolate and vanilla with a bit of a cloying finish. Nice, but the sweet finish is a bit much for me.

Pours dark brown color with light brown head. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate with some bourbon and alcohol. Dark roasted malt flavor with bourbon and wood. Some chocolate and slightly boozy. Just a hint of heat from the peppers. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick mouthfeel.

22oz bomber pours with a deep dark body supporting a decent enough looking tan head of foam. The aroma offers up earthy coffee, dark roasted malts, mild chocolate and some chili pepper capsaicin notes. The taste is earthy chocolate, dark roasted malts and dark roasted coffee. To midway it picks up modest barrel notes like bourbon and wafer thin ribbons of vanilla and wood. Into the finish modest notes of chili peppers and heat surface amid the other notes and bring this to closure. Kudos on the barrel contact time for me it was spot on and let the beer have some balance.

Bottle thanks to PhatDog. Pours black with tan head. Nose and taste of chili pepper, cinnamon, milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, spice, bourbon and roast chocolate malt. Of those flavors, the cinnamon and bourbon way overpower the others. Finishes with a bit too much barrel treatment and not enough pepper heat. Less than medium bodied. A bit boozy. Cinnamon and an unrecognizable spice kind of take over the palate and finishes with boozy cheap bourbon. Considering chili pepper imperial stouts are my favorite combination, this is a real disappointment.

Bottle. Completely black, small brown head. Aroma of rich vanilla, espresso, dark cocoa. Taste is dark roast coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and a bit of heat, but not enough to overwhelm the beer flavors. Very nice.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to mottle rim leaving spot lacing. Chocolate and vanilla aromas. Soft with oak, chili and chocolate upfront turning to espresso and vanilla in the hot, lasting finish.
