Bare Naked is a stripped down, unencumbered hard cider. Naturally fermented using "Forbidden Fruit" wit yeast and unpasteurized fresh-pressed apple juice. A secondary fermentation using sparkling wine yeast rounds out this bright, natural beauty. Softly sparkling and approachable. Free spirited and complex, without being complicated. An upfront fresh apple bouquet with enough grown up imagination and depth of character to be very interesting. Unfiltered and unfettered, straight from the tank. No added sulfites, colorants, sugar, sorbate or benzoate preservatives. No added malt, spirit or grape alcohols.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with small frothy white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is honey and champagne. Thin mouthfeel with a tangy malt and dry fruit with nice dry finish. A very good cider from Crispin.

Bottle. Crystal clear pale straw yellow. Fizzy white head fades; average cider retention left. Aromas of sweet fruit, gogi, pear, pencil eraser, bubblegum, jolly rancher apple, light sulfur. Sweet, sulfuric, genuine and vivid, slightly over ripe table apple. Lightly musty sock. Acidity is mild and tannin is quite low. The balance seems to be geared towards a teenager’s palate (read: it needs more tannin and acid to balance the sweetness). Medium to medium low carb. Slightly fuller bodied cider.

Jolly rancher apple nose, odd in the candy is made with artificial flavorings and this is organic. The aroma is strong and it fills the room, again odd for a cider. Fairly clear amber, no visible carbonation. Flavor is unfortunately dominated by fusel alcohol. There are some nice white grape, apple, and apple blossom notes to be found, but the chemical flavor ruins it all, what an irony.

Bomber from the Folsom Whole Foods as bare naked single strength reserve. Pours hazy dark gold. Fresh apple smell, but there might be a hint of acetic acid. Medium body. Fairly fresh apple flavor to start, followed by some apple skin bitter. No trace of sour. Crisp. Apple. A pretty good cider.

Bottle from Whole Foods Bowery. Stirred up & poured into an Ommegang chalice. Faintly fizzy, dusty yellow body. Smells of red apples & pears upfront. Juicy Fruit gum & aerosol. Warm plastic & mild pie spice trailing. Taste is mildly tart apple wine/juice box upfront, with some bubble gum sweetness. Turns thick halfway in, with chalky banana yeastiness & a generally starchy texture. Prickly carbonation that dies on you when you need it. Dusty texture. Harsh alcohol for only 6%. Ugly, lingering, creamy Play-Doh plastic-y finish. Out of a dozen or so witbier ciders I’ve had, I’ve liked a grand total of one. Though this one had a lot more problems with it then just the yeast.

Bomber from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a bit of a head. Aroma of sweet, crisp apples with a bit of spice. The taste is dry apples, herbal notes, spice, almost a wood note. Medium bodied, high carbonation, crisp finish. Decent cider. P.S. Holy hell there’s a lot of sediment in this one! By the end of the bottle there’s more than a half inch at the bottom of the glass. Oh well, gotta get my fruit somehow.
