The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

Bottle at Christine and Daves on Thanksgiving Day, 28/11/13. Found this at the back of Daves fridge, best before Oct 2010 - so old it carried the former name of this beer - Yakima Twighlight. Though I’d give it a go anyhow ! Pours dark chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering - full of floating globules, I’m going to ignore these for rating purposes. Nose is light roast, big burst of pine, sticky tropicals, caramelised sugars, dank hops. Taste comprises pine resin, dank hops, caramelised sugars, red grapefruit, caramel malt, sweet cake mix. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finale with hop bitterness present. This has held up amazingly well bearing in mind it should have been dealt with 3 years ago - carried more flavour than a lot of fresh beers I’d had this same day!

Bottle. Baking cocoa, caramel, and citrusy pine hops aroma. Deep chestnut with a huge peachy beige head, thick rings of lacing... not black but still a very nice looking beer. Huge resinous piney hops and burnt caramel malt flavor. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Not my favorite black IPA, but solid.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours an almost clear dark - nothing black here though! - amber with a creamy beige head. Greasy thick hop aroma atop some caramel. Rich body, again thick toffeeish caramel - no roast - with a thick hoppiness if somewhat indistinctive. Ends bitter with some alcohol showing. Not bad, bud certainly not a Black IPA - red at the most. 030413

Deep brown with a tan head. Aroma is citrus and pine over a sweet malty background. Medium body. Flavor has a mix of dry, rustic malts and piney, citrus hops. A bit maltier and sweeter than many BIPAs I’ve had. Still, not a huge fan of the style. Decent brew.
