The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

It pours brown and yields a slightly darker colored body. A nice foamy white one inch head appears and lasts for a good minute before becoming lumpy and settling nicely at the top of the body. A fair amount of spider web yet foamy lacing occurs. Though a slightly transparent body when held up to the light, no carbonation is seen rising. The smell has the hops and the pine up front, a bit of grapefruit there, very subdued. The taste is bitter with the hops and pine dominating this aspect. The mouthfeel is a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. It leaves a decent dryness. Though a fairly high ABV, still drinkable, the alcohol isn’t really noted or felt. Overall, a good beer by Victory.

bottle - Pours orange-brown with a one finger head. It smells of resinous and citrus accented hops. The flavor is moderately to strongly bitter with resinous notes, caramel, and some alcohol in the background. It’s medium bodied and quite good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best by 11/30/2012. Pours cloudy dark reddish brown color, with a nice 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, pine, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, herbal, toasted malt, and a touch of alcohol. Some pretty nice aromas that are very citrus hop forward. Taste of big chocolate, pine, grapefruit, caramel, roasted malt, biscuit, herbal, orange peel, and a touch of coffee. Nice sized bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, pine, citrus, biscuit, roasted malt, and caramel on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance of hop bitterness to roasted malt sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is a very nice black IPA. It has a nice roasted malt backbone, which I enjoy seeing in the style; and is very enjoyable to sip on.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Clear dark brown color with a beige head. Roasty-hoppy aroma with some citrus, a bit of pine and floral notes. Flavor has some roastiness, light sweetness, grapefruity and piney hops and a bitter, roasty and hoppy finish. Medium-bodied. Very nice.

Pours clear medium dark brow with lots of red highlights under a sticky off-white head. The aroma is a pleasant blend of sweet candy malts and citrus hops. The flavor is sweet dark malts on the tongue at first followed by a building hop bitterness that carries into the finish. Well done.

On draught at Gallo’s Tap Room. The beer pours a clear dark brown color with ruby highlights. Medium beige head that fizzes away steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and piney hops. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of grassy hops pine, honey and malt. The finish is sweet up front and leaves a hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall.

Pours brown with a large, lasting head.Nose shows roasted malt alongside resinous, earthy and spicy hops. Also some chocolate and nutty notes. The flavours are less roasty, more hop-focussed with big piney notes. Some nutty hints also show but not much malt otherwise. Subtle spicy hops too. Pretty nice stuff.Could use more carbonation.

Single bottle from Lemon Tree. Pours a lot of bubbles in the glass, under a brownish big spongy head. Deep brown, nearly but not really black in the glass. Nose in the glass for a bright bit of lemon hop, then some pine resin behind it. They want to call it "juicy" hop, and that comes out in the taste. My mouth waters when I have a swig in it. Malts are deeply roasted to a good nut brown, and can make a play against the high hopping. Mainly because the hops don’t go for pucker, they just want to bring in some happiness. Fine dry finish leaves some bitterness at the sides of my tongue.
