Certainly a classic, and also an acquired taste methinks, not for everyone! Pours deep chestnut brown with a frothy tan head and smoky on the nose. Light to medium bodied and it’s a smoked bacon and malt flavour with some complexity to the latter, bitter and sweet flavours competing nicely to underpin the smokiness

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours clear, deep red-brown with a foamy beige head that quickly settles into a cream. Has one of the most distinctive aromas around. Light-medium sweet, nicely dry, nots of well toasted ham, campfire, smoke, burnt brown bread, light minerality, a few leaves, earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly drying finish, burnt bready malts, burnt bacon, lingering smoke, brown sugar, a little ashy dryness. I like rauchbier and I love this.
