A nod to Edinburgh's great malt-forward ale tradition. Brewed with a 180 minute boil for deep toffee and dark sugar character, with a whisper of smoked malt for a traditional Scottish edge.

From a 250ml can (from a four pack of different big beers in the Royalty Edition). Pours a very deep amber/brown with no discernible head. The nose features some fruit cake, and light caramel and toffee notes. Tastes of rye bread, brown sugar, preserved fruit, caramel, toffee with a touch of spice. Moderately bitter at the back with a good dash of warming, lingering booze. Syrupy mouthfeel with moderate to average carbonation. A very enjoyable big sipper. Love the idea of putting these big beers in little cans - the tall boys are perhaps a bit too much if you're not sharing.

Can. Dark clear red brown with a beige head that retreats to the rim after a time. Strong bread, toffee and stewed fruit aroma, hints of spices. So it tastes. Just a touch of old sherry at the end along with modest but brooding bitterness, seaweed. Alcohol is well hidden. This is rather well done.
