Admiral Stache Baltic Porter

Purchased in six pack form at a random liquor store in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed during a fantasy baseball draft. Appearance is a dark black with a bubbly white head that seems rather carbonated. Aroma of light chocolate, not too much else. Taste is where this one shines, good easy drinking chocolate notes with light mint and light bourbon barrel flavor. Overall though for the style it’s sub par.

Bottle courtesy o nuplastikk, thank you! Black color, thick brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of slightly smokey burnt espresso. Taste is highly carbonated dark roast coffee. Decent.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a light brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has light chocolate with roasted malts and sweet dark grains with a hint of grassy hops. Flavor is a bit more milky with sweet chocolate and dark grains as well as a hint of bourbon.

Almost a decade ago I tried this, September of 2011, and I gave it a 1.4 then. It was infected. Time for a re-reate. 8/27/20. 12 ounce bottle, don't recall where I got it. Black, thin fizzy head fair retention. At first glance the appearance score will be going down! But the smell suggests the rating will be otherwise be going up significantly. Aroma of roast, chocolate, oak, smoke, cherry. Taste is whiskey, cherry, oak, vanilla, chocolate. Thin. It's still not a good beer, kinda thin and harsh. But it's better than 1.4. Old review follows: 12 ounce bottle from Badger in Beloit. Pours a very dark murky brown with a large creamy brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and an off note almost like rotten vegetables. The taste is tart fruits and a malty finish. Kinda tastes like a fruit smoothie. Faint whisky and vanilla notes. Medium bodied. This one is majorly infected. Lol I see see I said fruit smoothie in 2011. Am I responsible for recent trends? Another note: one from the 8/27/re-rate. It's much better than 1.4, but its still after 9 years, not good. Is this their practical joke on America?

Bottle indicates Barrel aged Baltic Porter. 12 oz. pours light brown, mocha head. aroma, some berries, dark fruits, the wood aging is very mild and thin on the palate with some moderate note of vanilla, dark and caramel malts. flavors, faint barrel,wood and hints of vanilla, dark fruits, chocolate/caramel malts and light roast. Was really hoping for more of a barrel presence. Regardless, it’s a fairly nice baltic porter, lingering dark fruits, and a finish that is a little too thin.

12oz bottle. Deep brown-amber color. Thin, patchy, beige head. Sweet brown sugary aroma, some hints of vanilla and bourbon. Quite nice, certainly not a standard example of the style. Mellow vanilla and oak tones really help give it more depth, complementing the sweet chocolate malt tones. Full of flavor, walking the line between medium and full bodied. A lot of fruity tones for a Lager. A really good beer, I look forward to more offerings from the MBC.
