As part of the @leagueofnhcraftsmen Spirit of the Maker Series, we are proud to present Betula, brewed in collaboration with artist Molly Harper. This Northeast Landbier was designed to reflect the deep appreciation for New Hampshire’s natural beauty that we share with Molly, whose work is inspired by time spent exploring the spaces around us.
In partnering with Molly, we prioritized a local and environmentally conscious ingredient selection process. Betula is brewed with regionally sourced Pilsner and Vienna malt from hydro-powered @valleymalt in Holyoke, Massachusetts. We added Cascade hops from @champlain.valley.hops in Starksboro, Vermont. Lastly, as a nod to Molly’s artwork, we added birch bark to the whirlpool. This woodsy-citrus aroma melds perfectly with the hops and is backed by a dry biscuity malt character.
Thank you to the League of Craftsmen for putting together this initiative, and to Molly for working together on this! You can find the beer here starting Friday on draft and in 4-packs to go. It will also be featured alongside 15 other brewer/maker collaborations at the Annual Craftsmen’s Fair August 1st - 9th at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH.

Good stuff. Fresh biscuits, bitter grain husk, cereal, bit of grassy bite, moderate bitterness. Clean and quenching. Tidy.

On tap at Schilling, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma is fairly crisp and mild, with bready malt, some light herbal notes, and generic bittering hops. Flavour is biting, more like a Czech pils, with crisp bittering hops, straw, and crackery malt. Not really noticing the birch bark. Just a good crisp, hoppy lager.

Draft at tasting room. Clear golden faint clouds and foamy white head. Enjoyed on awesome patio overlooking River. Nose is hay, some bark and herbal. Tastes of grass, hay, spicy pepper, bitter bark, sasparilla notes. Crisp and refreshing.

Pours pale yellow into a willi. Bright white head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Lemon and hay aromas. Soft with sweet hay and straw upfront turning to lemon peel before the lasting pith and pine finish. Nice.

Tasting room draught, 7/30/26.
Bit of earth, herb and acid with crusty grains and mineral. Not a typical honey-rich pils character, for example.
Very different with a touch of dry, bitter bark, I guess. But still malty enough, just quite dry. Light and airy, and very different than what Schilling usually does, which is always interesting to try.
