Batch 1 750mL bottle at Bukowski's Boston, 2011.
Clear, brass-bronze body is well-carbonated and forms a large, white head showing moderate retention.
Smells malty and bready with honey, biscuit, dough and light cereal. The yeast signature shows light white pepper, a bit of clove, some earth and basement must, with mushy yellow fruit esters and some rather earthy-to-peppery hop notes that don't quite balance the malt. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it shows a substantial, soft, malty texture with honey, cereal and biscuit-like notes, high but engaging carbonation and a varied yeast character ranging from less-desirable clove and strong white pepper, to more musty funk and moderately fruity ester. Hops are light bitter, adding pepper and dried herb notes that are appreciated but don't really keep it from being just a bit too "thick and malty", in my opinion. Would definitely appreciate a more delicate yeast character, as well; it's not too clove-heavy, but it would be nice if there was none. No alcohol or flaw. Definitely drinkable and for their first bottled offering, encouraging.

On the side, the batch number says: 11.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a light hazy bronzed orange color. It started off with a soft foamy whitecapping mushrooming head. This head gently died to leave some lacing clinging here and there.
The smell had a dry sweet pear with light spiced apples and then a black pepper invading and combining substantially.
The taste was sweet and bitter at separate times but it does have a lingering bitter and bright citrus appeal to make me want to indulge in more. There’s a light lemon here and there.
On the palate, a light tartness comes into play to enliven a slight harsh carbonation to run amuck over my tongue and mouth. Harsh - only slightly. This one sat about a light on the body.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good saison I’d have again.

Pours a nice medium golden color. Fairly cloudy. Medium just barely off-white head. Good retention. Aroma is a nice mix of fresh malt, saison yeastiness and light fruitiness. I’m getting green grapes, white wine, peaches, blueberries, apples. Honey. Malt flavor is bright and fairly sweet. Mild pepper. Some very light funk. Mildly herbal. Taste starts fairly sweet with a good dose of honey-ish malt. Then, some apricot and grape fruitiness kicks in. Finally, the beer finishes with some drier yeast notes and a bit of lemony, floral hops. Lightly effervescent with some decent body to the beer. Tasty enough, but it’s mostly well-trod territory. I remember liking Renaud a bit more, though I think this one is a touch more fruity. Still, it’s a solid, well-made saison.

Bottle. Batch 11. Pours with a hazed blonde-straw yellow hued body with a medium sized white head. Good retention and lace. Aromas are of pepper, root vegetables, mild grainy qualities, herbal hops, floral and green. Lots of phenolic notes, mildly dry and fruity esters. White grapes, crackery. Flavors are of peppery phenols, mild sweetness, grainy, lots of esters, black pepper, straw, apple sauce, mild umami. Dry finish. Nice balance and complexity. Low tartness. Fuller carbonation, medium-low body.

Belgian Beer Fest Boston. Hazy yellow amber color. Aroma of straw and citrus. Taste is similar. More boozy than it needs to be.

Bottled at the Festival of Farmhouse Ales. Orangish-yellow, quite dark, with a very fine, high head. Malty nose, a lot of biscuits, bread, a little citrus. Really similar to Saison Dupont. Flavor is grass, citrus, bread. Again, close to Dupont. Lacks the complexity and the crispness, but close and likewise very nice.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head. The aroma is sweet fruit and wheat. Thin mouthfeel with a dry wheat and citrus. Not much going on with this one.
