Across the cold and brackish waters of the Baltic, the English Porter was transferred, from a mild ale to a dark and complex lager that confounds definition. Immersed in dark, roasted malts and a bold citrus hop character, these big and contrasting flavors are brought together with the smoothness of a lager for a brew that’s bold, mysterious, and full of flavor.

(bottle) (batch #2) clear very dark brown colour with a tall brown head, aromas start with sour fruit, then molasses, stewed fruit, chocolate cake; thin and a bit slick palate; pleasant, intense balanced flavour; definitely more of a baltic porter than ipa

From a 12 oz bottle shared at VIR. Pours a cola brown with an off white head. Malty aroma. Flavors of grass with a sweet malt finish.

Bottle. Almost clear, deep brown liquid with small to medium light tan head. Aroma of licorice, light smoke, light pine, pumpernickel and paracetamol pills (?!). Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with notes of pumpernickel, biscuit, bread and chocolate. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Not IPA-ish at all. Just a Baltic Porter with a liiitle more hops than usual.

Bottle thanks to Leighton at the 0-65% tasting. It pours deep ruby-brown with long-lasting small light tan head. The nose is caramel, dark fruit, light roast, chocolate and faint citrus. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, toast, dark fruit, bitter chocolate, ash and earth with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium-fullish body and moderate carbonation. Smooth and flavoursome. Damn Sam Adams can bust out a good beer.

Bottle at the 0-65% Tasting, London - this beer was one of my contributions. Pours clear, red-brown with a tight, creamy light brown head. Bit of dark pine on the nose, dark malts. Medium sweet flavor with oily pine, dark malts, subtle cocoa, moderate roast. Medium bodied with fine to average, creamy carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly resinous, more dark malts, light charred wood, a bit of warmth, pine and cocoa. Great stuff. Very solid.

The 0-65 tasting. Four guys, fourteen beers, average abv 12.9%, 65 mins! Clear dark red - amber beer. Fluffy pale tan head. Smooth palate, a little soft. Sweetish dark malt - light. Dark fruits underneath, slightly sour. Smooth and soft and a little unusual. Not bad in it’s own right, pretty weak as a Black IPA.
