This beer is a Belgian Tripel that lives up to its name. Smooth and carefully crafted like a fine velvet painting, but with an 8.5% ABV this bird has some spurs! The beer pours a golden straw color with brilliant clarity. Topped with a lofty pure white head the beer has a wonderful floral nose, with subtle fruit notes. The taste is clean and crisp, with subtle fruit notes and a touch of candy like sweetness. The beer has a Champagne-like effervescent that provides a crisp offset to its sweet finish. While a pint glass is always nice, Velvet Rooster
would also be at home in a tulip glass or Champagne flute. Something to crow about.

Can. Hazy golden yellow color, thick white head, solid lacing. Arona of tropical fruit and pineapple (or is that redundant?). Taste is bitter pineapple and citrus. Not bad.

Poured from can at SAVOR. This beer poured a yellow-orange color with a small slightly off-white head. Aroma was slightly sweet malts, touch of yeast, light fruit notes. Alcohol well masked, enjoyable enough.

16oz can poured into a small Corsendonk goblet. I think this is a damn good tripel... or more like a golden Belgian strong. Sure it may be a little sweet but its well done. Aroma has Belgian airiness with some sweet esters (only mild to moderate) and a slightly herbal aspect (not sure from where) to balance it out. Flavor is same, light banana esters in a thick coating of Belgian malts. Again, a faint herbal character and a moderate bitterness to balance it out. Thicker mouthfeel goes in line with the structure of the beer. I think it is well made, not a tripel but Belgian, not overly sweet, drinkable, and the best damn Tripel in a can.

Can: Poured a hazy yellow with a two finger white head. Aroma is citrus fruit. Taste is metallic, fruit, and finish is sweet but very bland with more metal at the back of the palate.

On tap at Sugar Maple. Pours a clear orangish gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains with underlying light sweet fruit and caramel. Flavor is similar with sweetness from sweet bread, cookie and sweet grains with a bit of backing light fruit.

Pint can purchased at Royal Liquors in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a hazy golden copper with a firm foamy two inch white head. The aroma is spice yeast esters and a grain maltiness, along with a dried floral sweetness. The taste is big clove and ester yeast, sweetness, grain, then more of the yeast and a sharp bitter sweet. Pretty rough and tumble flavors. The palate is medium to heavy bodied, fine natural carbonation, sweet slightly hot aftertaste. This hit what I expect of an American Tripel to a T, though I’m not a huge Tripel fan. Nice, just not my thing.

I love the label on this one. 16 ounce can from Beer Run. Pours a hazy straw color with a large frothy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of nutty notes and spice with a bit of a sugar note. The taste is sweet malts, candi sugar, strong cinnamon, nutmeg and other spice, caramel. Medium-full bodied. On the sweet side, and maybe a bit too strongly spiced, but still a nice beer.

5ooml can into a big Tripel Karmeliet glass. Glowing orange, looks filtered, but maybe a little hazy. Soapy white head. Sugary aroma, some candi sugar maybe, but not so impressive. Pretty much an uninspired American version, though still reasonably enjoyable. Not so strong as to be overbearing. Some true to style mild hop bitterness balances it out. Decent, but rather pedestrian and lacking depth..still has some pleasant freshness and remains nice until the end of the glass.

Thanks to Armin for sharing - hazy gold - sudsy lace - nose is soft mineral, herbs, flowers - actually a bit soapy in the nose - some floral notes - flavor is medium sweet, fairly floral, grassy - a bit of mineral notes and toasty, husky grainy notes - finish is lightly medicinal, husky, syrupy - quite messy.
