Hoppy Wheat Beer

With roots in two of today's most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Bottle - thanks bob! Pours hazy butterscotch with a medium white head and very nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, wheat, pine. Flavor is the same, light sweet and light bitter, with an IPA start and a wheaty finish. Light plus body, quire refreshing, actually. A nice take.

Bottled sample at the 9th Annual Summertime Brews Festival, Greensboro, 7/13/13. Pours a hazy yellow color with a large creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of spicy, herbal hops with a wheat finish. The taste is stone fruits, wheat, spicy hops. Medium bodied. Solid beer.

Bottle Pour is a hazy yellow/gold with a big fluffy head that dies down to a lot of clinging foam on the side of the glass and a few patches of it on the surface. Aromas are interestingly hoppy, but not quite what I expected... lots of lemon and pear with a little honey. Flavor follows along those lines... sweet and malty with a nice lemony edge to it. It’s kind of chewy on the palate at times, but still refreshing and nice enough.

12oz bottle. hazy golden-orange body. Thin, soapy, white head. A pleasant, mild citrus touch on top of the classic wheat aroma. I guess I’d be comfortable to call this one a White IPA, based on the citrus edge, but this shows how that could be a slippery slope. Medium bodied, yeasty, fresh, clean. A great session beer.

On tap at the Brick Store Pub. Pale, slightly hazy, yellow color, with a medium, creamy, white head. Up front aroma of lemons, wet hay, and some resinous and piney hops. Light sweetness, and mild hop bitterness. Not very well balanced. Light to medium body, smooth, and lightly acidic. Overall, this is not very well balanced, and the hops do not complement the wheat ale.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours a hazy pale orange gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of sweet wheat and citrus with a bit of underlying grass. Flavor is full of sweet citrus with a touch of bitterness and a nice sweet wheat backbone.

On tap at BTBF. Pours with a hazed yellow hued body and a white head. Aromas are grainy, toasty and floral with a large citrusy and lemony hop component. Light honey, estery. Flavors are bready, toasted malt, clean, dry, low bitterness with lots of citrus and floral hop flavors. Medium carbonation. Quite drinkable.
