Isn’t it how it always works? A few brewers sit around tippling and waxing poetic about what-ifs, wild ideas and untapped dreams when one suddenly proclaims "why not?" So the Conflux series was born, bravely leaping corporate and geographic barriers to jointly explore uncharted beeratory. Cheers, fellow explorers, cheers.

Second in a series, this citrusy, smooth white IPA is a fortuitous meeting of Deschutes’ hop skills and Boulevard’s deft wheat touch. What’s 1,800 miles when a great beer is at stake?

Shared by Chris. Ummm, this turned out exactly like the Blvd version, maybe felt a little less carbonated. I will basically copy cat the other rating. Loved it, very good melding of the styles. I wish for a little less bitterness on the hops but otherwise very well integrated. Great pale color with a medium head. Aroma is more wit than I expected but plenty of hop aroma as well. The base wit is tame, coriander abundant but not sweet, not overly herbal. The citrus hops accompany it well. The flavor is well attenuated, refreshingly simple with a base wheat beer with subdued Belgian yeast and a relatively strong hop component. Drinks so nicely, I could drink this all day in this hot weather. I wish this came in a 6 pack. I will quote Eric to finish this off "This about perfectly fit my pre-determined mental picture of what a ’White IPA’ would and even should be. Well done."

Bomber. Pours the same shade of pale hazy gold that the Boulevard did. The head isn’t as impressive, though. It starts out a medium size and dissipates into a blanket fairly quick. The aroma is similarily peachy but it’s lacking the pine and citrus notes of the former, surprising giving the fact that Deschutes is the noted "hop brewer" in this collaboration. It has more of a catbox character, which is something that normally doesn’t bother me in a hoppy beer, but the Boulevard didn’t have it and that seems like a bonus. Taste is bittersweet and slightly sour. Has a subdued grainy flavor. The palate is pretty similar to the Boulevard. Overall, both beers are good, but the Boulevard wins in comparison due to the amount of spices used. I’ve had beers before somewhat close to the Deschutes version of this recipe. The Boulevard was completely unique.

22 oz. bottle, pours cloudy blonde with a white head. Aroma of strong Belgian yeast, tons of spices, and some orange / lemon rind. Flavour of Belgian spices and yeast, some coriander, a little funk and lots of orange / lemon rind. Medium complexity, with a spicy finish. Preferred this to the Boulevard version.

Bottle @ home. Slightly cloudy (less so than the Boulevard edition) with a full, pearl white head. A slightly more pronounced piney, earthy hoppiness in the nose than the Boulevard edition which has more of the witbier characteristics. Moderately piney, somewhat resiny hoppy, light wheat flavor. A tasty brew but more of a hoppy, resiny presence than the other version.

Bomber from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours hazy slightly dirty gold - like green tea - with a slight creamy/bubbly whiteish head. Aroma is something like citrus combined with asparagus. With maybe some basil tossed in the mix. Passing strange stuff. Med body. I honest to gosh think this is a mix of basil and some standard citrus hop. Lots of basil. Well it’s damn drinkable, and I’m thinking it’d go well with something Italian. It’s bitter in the finish, and it’s certainly easy to drink. Course I think you gotta be really fond of basil to get into this. I had basil/tomato dressing on my lunch today, I’ve got basil in the kitchen window, so basil is on my mind!

[Note - should be listed as a witbier] Bomber bought for 8 bucks at Wilbur’s in Fort Collins - I refrained from buying the Boulevard version because it was a full 5 bucks more for less than 4 additional ounces - hazy gold with an impressive, soapy lace - lesser brewers could have really fucked this up, making a hop bomb out of a delicate style - they mostly have a soft touch here - the usual spices of a wit get a nice boost from the addition of the sage - the beer is a little sweet up front, but dries out fast, which compliments the spiciness well - the hops are secondary to the spices, adding their bitterness more than they add their flavor - it blends well with the spices, so you can’t tell where one ends and one begins - my only complaint would be that the sage is just slightly overdone, but otherwise this is quite well done.

Bottle with a best before of 11/10/11. Pours with a hazy golden hued body and a large, thick white head that stays and leaves excellent lace. Aromas are strongly estery and phenolic. Belgian yeast, pears, pepper, coriander, fruity. Malt notes are grainy, and bready. Decent amount of hops on the nose with notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Candi sugar and cardamom. Flavors are soft, bready and somewhat malty. Strong yeast phenols and ester, coriander and pepper. Finishes dry. Mild bitterness. Some hop flavors towards the finish. Medium to lively carbonation. Medium bodied, dry finish. Tasty. Not an IPA as it is currently listed.

A worthy effort. Called Collaborator as it’s a joint venture between Deschutes and Boulevard. Pale gold with a hoppy aroma. Tasted like a hybrid (I almost wrote baster) between an IPA and a Belgian witbier. Bready flavour with hoppiness and a hoppy finish.
