Brewed with a variety of roasted malts, wheat, and sweet potatoes, this stout is one of the rare Bell's beers that uses spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger). That array of spices provides the aromatic focus, while a dollop of honey lightens the full-bodied molasses character of the beer.

tap - Pours near black and smells of roasted malt and chocolate. It tastes of sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and maybe a little spice. Honestly I don’t notice anything that tasted or smelled like sweet potatoes, but it’s an enjoyable stout just the same.

Served on draft at Brewvival. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a large brown creamy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, tart fruits, potatoes and spicy notes. The taste is earthy and vegetal notes, potatoes, roasted malts, sugar and tart fruits. Medium bodied.

Enjoyed at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo, MI. Appearance pure black with a very small tan head. Aroma pretty much non-apparent, if anything a touch of sweetness, maybe a touch of figs or a dark fruit Taste is unique, its pretty smooth with a fruity complex, slight carbonation, somewhat sweet, there’s definitely the sweet potato / starchy quality to it. Happy to have tried but probably won’t drink again.

Tap @ Eccentric Cafe. Black colour, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Flavour of roasted malts, chocolate, oats. Don’t really get the potato flavours, but otherwise a nice stout.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Opaque, deep brown body, medium cream head. Licorice-sweet nose with dark sugars, spice, and yam. Spicy body with nutmeg notes complementing the roasted malts and chocolate. What I would expect if a stout was mixed with Anchor Our Special Ale. Good.

Draught at Eccentric Cafe. Dark brown/black pour with almost no head. I was a little nervous about this, who knows what could go wrong with a Sweet Potato stout? Flavors were an interesting mix of stout-like roasted malt and pie spices. The two worked pretty well together, and I wouldn’t have guessed there were any sweet potatoes involved in this one. Both mouthfeel and pour were kind of thin, but flavor more than made up for it.
