A true TBK original, we kick this German-style black lager up a couple notches. Big clean malty flavor with just a hint of roasted malt. "May the Schwartz be with you!"

Pours a deep dark brown color with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head that dissipates rather quickly. Smells of light chocolate and caramel with a bit of earthy and floral hops playing a supporting role. Taste is chocolate and caramel with a bit of ash. Earthy bitter hops mix with a hint of alcohol to counter the malt sweetness. There’s a hint of melanoid in there that makes it a little interesting. A bit of a lingering alcohol burn on the finish. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. I thought this was only ok. It seems like a kicked up version of a macro lager with a bit of chocolate malt.

Bottle. Almost black, bright tan head. Aroma of moldy leather. Taste of bitter chocolate soda. An unfortunate choice as my last beer of the tasting.

Dark with a off white head. Aroma was clean with lightly roasted malts, light molasses, chocolate. Flavor was much the same and the roasted malts were quite restrained but noticable still. Body was fuller than many schwarzbiers I’ve had, which makes sense, and a bit smoother. Sweet finish. Good beer.

Bomber from Belmont Party Supply shared at the 16th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 11/5/11. Pours very dark brown with a medium fizzy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke and sweet malts. The taste is rich roasted malts, coffee, sweet malts and faint hops. Medium-full bodied. Nice.

Bottle shared by adnielsen (thanks, Aaron!) - must everything be "imperialized" these days - nose of booze, light grassy hops, char, chocolate, light berry - flavor is simultaneously too sweet and too bitter - lots of bitterness from the dark malt - sugary sweetness - roast is intense, bordering on ashy - some grassy hops and blueberry in the mix - not terrible, but boozy, and many of the flavors are far too "sharp" - meh.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Dark brown appearance with a tan head. Rich chocolate, herbal, grassy, light coffee aroma. Herbal, minty, dark chocolate, roasty, straw flavor. Not nearly as boozy as the last time I had it.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a fading white head. Aroma of chocolate, grain, and rye. Taste is dry, rye and chocolate. Grainy. Kind of boring. Light bubbles. Well hidden alcohol.

Bottle. Body is a fairly dark brown with some red showing through around the edges... it is fairly thin-looking, in spite of its dark color. There wasn’t much of a hiss when I popped the cap and there isn’t much of a head, especially after a half minute or so. Aromas of dark fruit, a little bit of earth and nuts... pretty mild. Flavor is much fuller... quite a bit of a cola like taste in there, with some jammy dark fruit, a little bit of an earthy presence, some astringent alcohol... not bad, but a bit rough at times. This is pretty thin on the palate, but there is enough sweetness that it covers pretty well.
