A portion of our Oatmeal Stout is aged in “Old Grand-Dad” bourbon barrels fresh from the distillery. During six weeks of conditioning, it acquires its unique bourbon overtones and a mellow vanilla flavor from the American white oak barrels. Served cool, not cold, via a traditional English beer engine. Intensely smooth!

Tap. Pours deep clear black, large creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is bourbon, cherry, lemon peel, hints of vinous and Brett things, vanilla. Flavors is fairly sweet, light bitter, a hint of tartness, lots of bourbon and weird notes, woody, lemon peel, weird. Just weird. Lightish body, creamy mouthfeel. Weird.

(On Tap) Jet black with big white head. Smoky, peaty, oaky. Great palate - smooth but quite light at the same time. Great taste primarily oaky whisky over a sweetish dark roast malt. Very well balanced combination of flavours. This is bourbon, not stout, dominated. I like whisky so this works well for me. I guess if you are looking for a stout with whisky notes you may be disappointed.

Bourbon rules this one. Not much of a stout behind it. Pours black with OK head and lacing. Light sweet finish. Lots of booze and bourbon barrel aroma doesn’t help. Tap at brewpub.

On tap at the District ChopHouse in DC. Pint, came to table virtually pitch black with a very small, almost wispy tan head. Aroma was light roasted sweet malts and plenty of vanilla and bourbon. Mouthfeel is a bit thin unfortunately, but with that ABV, it’s drinkable through a meal.

Cask at the source. Murky dark brown color, completely flat. Aroma of bourbon! that overpowers the beer. Taste is dilute bourbon. Lacks body. Maybe this one had been on for too long, so I should re-try it. Disappointing.
