Bottle via trade with DavidP. Clearish amber-red body, thin off-white head. Rich toasty, caramely, cerealy aroma with earthy hops notes. The sweet caramels and cereals are cut by a nice, crisp bitterness and earthy hops finish. Not heavy or cloying like many Oktoberfests. New Glarus is one of the best brewers of session ales and lagers there is.

2004 bottle compliments of Footbalm. I was very interested to try a non-fruit New Glarus, after being very disappointed by the Rasp. Tart. Pours a clear lightly rusty yellow-copper, small white head, lightly fizzy and mostly dissipating. Aroma of light roast, moderately dry caramel and some earthy yeast tones. Flavor starts out with a wonderful, authentic munich malt, caramelly and coppery, with tame, but flavorful yeast notes. Wonderful progression to the finish, via a spectacularly creamy, smooth body, medium to medium full. Finish while showcasing the even, balanced malt flavor, has some bitter hops which, while not too bitter, really aren’t necessary. This beer could just fade in to the distance with wonderful meaty yeast and malt, dry grainy caramel and hints of rum-raisin and sweet shortbread. The hops really seem to break up a blissful finish, but I have also been very anti-hops lately, to be fair. Superb stuff.

Clear copper coloured body with orange highlights and a thin off-white head. Aroma of pumpkin, malt, nutmeg, some fruit and hardly any hops. Medium-bodied; Strong spicey flavour with a big malt background and little else. Aftertaste has a bunch of nutmeg flavour and a dry feeling. Overall, a great beer to try with everyone-I got this twelve ounce bottle in a trade with BBB63, and sampled it on 26-May-2004.

Bottled. Reddish amber. The crystal malt flavour is dominating the beer. Chewy mouthfeel. Pleasant, but one-dimensional. I've never really accepted octoberfest beers made with crystal malt, but this one is pretty good.

My thanks to Pjones6738 for this one. Very passable Marzen. Deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Strong malt aroma. Rich malt and caramel flavor with a nicely spiced finish. This is one of the better New Glarus beers I have tried so far. On a side note, I have really liked all of New Glarus'' labels so far.
