Ale Aged in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels

I awake from a slumber that’s been anything but peaceful. I don’t take kindly to idling and I am anything but neutral. Life has nothing to do with killing time, and the knowledge that months have passed since the onset of my sequestering in this pitch-black oaken tomb (albeit a barrel flush with brilliant aromas of vanilla and char) does not sit well. But then comes a tingle followed by rejuvenating warmth, signs that something is different…something has changed…and for the better.

I feel stronger yet somehow more nimble and refined. I feel even more self-assured, and my vision for what is good and right, honest and true, is as laser-sharp as the brawny, bawdy, liquid Arrogance that shall further advance my battle against all things mediocre and geared toward the lowest common denominator. I have been born anew and, in the process, anointed with vibrant, inspiring, previously unexperienced character, all while maintaining everything I am and have always been—bold, bullish, unadulterated, and yes, Arrogant.

Are you Worthy of quaffing a beverage of this intensity, irreverence and quality craftsmanship? Not likely, but for those who “get it,” I know my time in this bourbon barrel has not been wasted. Cheers to you, enlightened imbiber. On second thought, cheers to me!

Bottle, 355 ml from Beergium. Shared with JFK10000 and Josip. Pours deep amber with small off-white head. Hoppy, pine, caramel, malty, dried fruit, wood, bourbon. Sweetish. Dry bitter finish. Medium bodied.

355ml bottle. Clear deep brown colour with a tan head, great retention. Aroma: malts, dark/dried fruits, woody, whiskey. Taste: dried fruits, ripe dark fruit, some sweetness, warming alcohol, raisins, whiskey notes, oaky, spices. Smooth. Dry, bitter finish. Maybe it was just because my bottle wasn’t fresh (1 year old) but the alcohol taste seemed a bit too prominent in this. Aside from that it’s a decent brew, I need to try the original version now.

Bottle. Clear red brown, small light beige head. Aroma has malt, caramel and bourbon. Boozy flavour, bitter with woody vanilla, bourbon. Lasting, strong hoppy bitterness which goes together well with the bourbon.

Nice slightly bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, dark sugar, minerals, caramel malts, spices, grass, raisins, almonds, mild bourbon, oak, weeds, bark. Taste is harsh mineraly, weeds, bark, harsh grass, medicine, caramel malts, booze, spices, almond essence, raisins, paper, minerals. Medium to longlasting bitterness, harsh medical mouthfeel. Nice aroma...

Dark amber with off white head - Aroma of malt, wood and vanilla - Malt body to support a hop flavour of pine that is mellowed out by the wood and vanilla flavours - The wood and vanilla goes into the finish - The barrel makes this good, opposed to the regular bastard

(Keg at BrewDog Helsinki, 20161013) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had vanilla, malts and caramel. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, wood, caramel, sweetness, vanilla and bitterness. Aftertaste had wood, malts, sweetness, vanilla and low bitterness. A tasty barrel aged brew.

A ark, reddish brown beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has dark and ripe fruits, riasins, caramel, some vanilla. Taste has wood and dried fruits, caramel, quite strong bitterness which is piney and herbal. Very long end. Medium bodied. Difficult to say differencies to the basic version. Good beer.

Bottle from Erzbierschof Zurich. The barrel helps this beer. Aromas and flavours are still the same, but the barrel makes it softer and rounder, but also a bit boozier. Good.
