The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven’t done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer’s new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Bottle at home, from Beer Table Pantry NYC, 20/12/13. Pours a hazed marmalade orange/dark amber with a good sized dirty looking off white head that thins a little but settles down for the evening. Nose is caramel malt, dank hops, biscuit, red grapefruit, pine resin. Taste comprises caramel malt, orange pith, grapefruit, light mango, sticky pine resin. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive grassy hop bitterness in the closure. Solid hopped up amber !

This is wonderful. Pine hops is super poignant here. Juicy grapefruit aroma as well. I want to bite into this beer. Pours ruby with carpet lacing and good head. Bitter finish, average carbonation. Tap at brewpub.

12 oz bottle purchased at Pinocchio’s Beer Garden in Media, Pennsylvania. The pour is a mostly clear copper burnt orange with a well formed one inch off white head. The aroma is fresh resin, floral citrus, and a nice soft caramel malt sweetness. The taste is a nice blend of the dry resin, floral orange citrus hops, and the soft caramel sweetness of the malt. The resin cuts the sweetness nicely, and the overall balance really works. The palate is medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a mineral resin earthy finish. Nice beer.

Bottle. Hazy deep amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of citric, floral and piney hops and some caramelly/cookie-ish malt. Flavor of sweetish chewy malt, grapefruity and slightly piney hops and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Quite pleasant.

Tap @ brewery. Cloudy, reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head and good lacing. Toasty, caramel malty, a touch nutty, slightly piney, organic hoppy aroma. Nutty, toffee flavor with a healthy dose of piney, earthy hops.
