From the December 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was malty and a bit toasts with dark fruits and a vague hoppy presence. The flavor was dryish and a bit roasty with chalk and wood notes. Medium length finish. Medium body Solid.

Average imperial stout. Ok balance, some roast malt and light bitter finish. Some booze. Light on palate. Dark pour with good head and lacing. A dog just puked up some great looking sausage next to me. There are bunch of douchebags around that think they know a lot about craft beer. They say the like Stella. On tap at DC Summerfest.

0.75l bottle from my secret summer Santa. Thanks Santa! This is a deep deep dark brown, almost black one with a nice medium sized and lasting brown top that's leaving some nice lacing down the sides of the glass. Smells surprisingly hoppy this, almost like a black ipa in a way, but it has a dark dark sweetness lurking in the background that becomes more and more present as it gets some time in the glass. Lots of licorice going on here. It's not extreme on the aroma, but it's have to say it smells really good. Yeah, it's wasn't wrong with the hops, cause this is really hoppy! Feels fresh even if the bottle is 2/3 of a year old. Slick gliding on the mouthfeel and the carbonation level is prickling and below average. Again lots of licorice in the taste, lots of grassy strong hops. It also has lots of cold coffee this, and a sweet almost lactal and milky sweetness, but it is the hops that's having the leading role here! Almost so much that I'm finding it difficult accepting this as a imperial stout. Tasty though, but imo more of a black ipa. 12.04.2013

Licorice aroma. Mahogany, medium beige head, good lacing. Dry charcoal and charred oak with a subtle unripe cranberry undercurrent . Tobacco finish. Wow, this is not at all what I expected. Such a welcome change from the cloying messes that are all too common to the style. Very enjoyable.

Snifter at BP Old Towne. Pitch black, super steady head. Big anise soaked chocolate, some nice mellow hop tones. Nice depth, but drinkable with the moderate ABV. Roasty cocoa tones. Quite enjoyable. Licorice, black malt, anise, coffee.

Sample at the 4th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/21/2012: This brew pours black with a medium thin light brown head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Aroma of roasted malt and black licorice. Medium body with a roasty character and notes of anise bread, malt and mild hops. The finish is dry with a lingering black licorice and dark fruit aftertaste. Decent all around.
