Keg at Pizza Port Carlsbad, 21/04/14. Pitch black with a big dirty tan head that retains well, good lacing ensues. Nose is bitter roast, light spice, dark chocolate, mineral notes, light booze. Taste comprises roast malt, dark chocolate, toffee fudge, spice, molasses. Full body, fine carbonation, lightly warming booze in the close. Solid impy but a few notches away from top draw.

On tap at Alpine, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very strong with roasted notes and burnt chocolate. Flavour brings out complex roasted malts, and dry burnt espresso. Delicious stuff - really well-balanced. Awesome impie - just the way I like it.

It has a deep dark body that supports a mocha colored tan head of foam. The aroma is big with highly roasted malts, burnt malts, toffee and chocolate brownie, nice! The taste is rich and deep and bold with malt roastiness all over the place from dark roasted malts to burnt malts to chocolate malts and then to a pleasing rich toffee covered chocolate brownie sensation. This is rich yummy goodness.

Tap at Downtown JB’s, SD. It pours jet black, with a big light tan head. The nose is wood, coffee, burnt tire, liquorice, Christmas pudding, molasses and roasted malt. The taste is roasted malt, toast, burnt sugar, rich-roast coffee, liquorice, touch of varnish, spice and linger alcohol warmth. Full body and moderate carbonation. A solid roasty imperial stout.

Tap at Toronado S.D., brilliant staff recommendation. Black, small dark brown head. Aroma of ultra high density chocolate, like a 70% cacao. Taste is solid chocolate and coffee, but not overwhelming. Flavors mix and swirl as it warms, showing great complexity and character. Best beer of our San Diego trip.
