Bottle at Black Squirrel. Lots of caramel and malt, and a bit of Christmas spice. Not bad.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of banana, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, earthy notes and citrus hops. The taste is banana, caramel, toffee, earthy and nutty finish. Thin-medium bodied.

Dark winter is tasty, albeit simple. Light and delicious. Floral winter notes. Rated 4/15/10

Grabbed a pint on tap at outback pizza in Killington, VT. Malty and smooth. Not any flavors really stood out but overall i believed it to be an ok winter ale and started off a truly debaucherous evening

Bottle. Medium brown, slightly reddish. OK head, moving down, but some remaining. Earthy aroma, amber malt, yeast, honey. Lightly roasted malt, honey, caramel, coffee. Very nice, a bit sweet, but dry overall. Dry, roasted, hoppy finish. Long lasting dryness. I liked this a lot. Pretty well balanced, medium body, lightly carbonated. Very rich and also dry and drinkable.

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Off-white head quickly dissapears. Deep malt aroma. Dry caramel and nutmeg from front to back.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium caramel-brown color with a large tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty with touches of caramel and fruits. The flavor was bitter, tangy and fruity with a hint of caramel and nut. The finish was long, bitter and fruity. Decent.

S5L3F2T4O8 HIBERNATOR Nice beery aroma. Has some gunk on the bottom of the bottle. A brownish color beer with some orange tinge. Cloudy on top because of the gunk from the bottle. Initial taste is acceptable then it develops a medicinal feel about the maltiness. Finish is bitter medicinal linger. Hangs for a while.

12 oz bottle from 07 winter pack....a solid copper body with a fluffy beige head....a touch of honey in the nose, along with a sour funk....light unbalanced body...a little honey, and a lot of water....pretty ordinary--im only drinking this to rid myself of a hangover....drinkable, but wont buy again

Oh, hmm.... I was actually thinking that this was a brown ale and I suppose it was. Poured on draft at a restaurant, so I don’t know if they got the head right, but it was beige and dissipated into a nice lacing. Muddy brwn body. Sugary malt aroma and taste. Little sweetness. A lot of malts. As earlier reviewer said, not really that complex, bt definitely not that bad either.
