Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a tan head. Toffee and malt aroma with shiskey. Toffee and whiskey flavor with light earthiness. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and earth lingers with whiskey and light fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma is full of dark grains with some dark fruits and a bit of a spice and rye whiskey backing. Flavor started with dark grains and a bit of toffee and was joined by some dark fruit with the rye whiskey coming out in the finish.

Pours dark brown into a snifter. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Oak aromas. Thick with raisin and plum from front to back with a hot lasting vanilla oak finish.

12oz bottle pours murky rutty mahogany with tan head. The aroma is sweet bourbon, some spicy oak, a light amount of dark roasted malts, dark fruity esters and dark chocolate all followed by a touch of heat at the end of the draw. The taste is sweet and fairly smooth bourbon and a healthy dose of vanilla. The palate gets a bit creamy as notes of dark roasted malts, molasses and some chocolate take this to about midway. Into the finish growing bourbon booziness and lingering sweet vanilla slide into the after taste. Nice brew that leans barrel forward.

12 oz. bottle, as part of the Jewbelation 8-pack, pours dark with a tan head. Oaky aroma, with vanilla, molasses and dark fruits. Flavour of caramel, oak, vanilla, molasses and wood. The rye finishes it off, with a slightly bitter and alcoholic finish. This seems more like an experiment that came out to whatever it was rather than something uniquely crafted. That said, it is great.

Tap at Churchkey, courtesy of Darren - thank you sir! Tastes like a cross between pumpernickel bread and Christmas fruitcake - nice!

Bottle from the Hannukah sampler pack, from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin fizzy brown head that fades quickly to the edges. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, grapes, berries, citrus, some toastiness. There is a bit of a metallic note to the hops that is a bit offputting. The taste is chocolate, toffee, soy, bitter hops, citrus and other fruity notes, nuts, grapes, more bitter hops in the finish. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Bottle (Batch 001 of 230 cases, bottled on 10/4/2010). Pours with a deep brown, near black body with a khaki tan head that fades much quicker than any of the other (non-barrel aged) Jewbelations. Aromas of dry rye whiskey, tons of dark fruit, tobacco, oak, vanilla, dusty and spicy. Caramel and molasses. (Side thought...this thing has 77 "different" malts in it, not including the malt in the rye whiskey...hmm...). (on another note, shouldn’t this be at least 11%, if not more? If it is a straight blend of the beers it should be 11% before any barrel aging. Apparently there is a heavy reliance on 8 and 9 in this blend). There is some familiar smell (not altogether pleasant) that I am picking up. I cannot place it though. Popcorn maybe? Flavors of rye whiskey, oak, and dark fruit. Beyond that I cannot pick out much else. A sheer melee of flavors. Some cotton candy and cola notes. Creamy carbonation. Big mouthfeel, lingering tannins. An interesting concept, but the actual beer ends up a bit muddled. The reason why I rate it highly is that there is nothing technically wrong with the flavors, and I am a sucker for barrel aged beers.
