Draught @ Russian River, Santa Rosa, CA

Pours dark brown with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, chocolate, cocoa, coffee and hops. Taste is smooth, grassy hoppy and roasty with some cocoa, chocolate and bitterness. Finish is bitter, hoppy and grassy with some roastiness, coffee and licorice. Very hoppy and balanced brown ale, almost feels like a black IPA.

On tap at the brewpub. Aroma is a touch muted but there are nice malt notes. There is light toffee, some burnt toast, a hint of roast and chocolate and a nice nuttiness. Only a faint dank hop aroma. Esters and alcohol is minimal. Pours a solid brown with a hint of burnt amber. Thick, light tan head with really solid retention and lacing. Flavor starts out with some sweet toffee and dark caramel. There are hints of light chocolate and roast as well. The finish has a nice nuttiness to it. There is an assertive bitterness as well, moderately high but lacking astringency. Some dank hop flavor with some grapefruit and citrus as well, but more resinous than fruity. A touch of alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but smooth and creamy. Medium carbonation and low to no astringency. Low to moderate alcohol warmth. Overall one of my favorite brown ales. A balanced blend of malt and hops allowing both to shine and compliment each other. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep brown with mahogany on the sides. Chocolaty tan head that lingers and is full. Floral and citrus hop nose . chewy bitterness and well-rounded with strong malt profile. Slick hop resin at back of the palate. Taste lingers.

Tap, City Beer Store. Delicious brown ale. Pours a deep auburn with an ecru head. The aroma is muted, at least compared to the flavor. Smells of brown sugar, dark malt and notes of minty, citric hops. On the other hand, the beer has a ton going on when it reaches your mouth. There’s rich chocolate, brown ale nuttiness and ashy roast. It starts pleasantly sweet and rich but finishes with a mix of hop and roast bitterness. Great aftertaste. The feel is smooth and full. Goes down easily. Booze is nowhere to be found. Awesome stuff.
