This was the beer we had in mind when we decided to brew Chinese craft beers. Honey Ma Gold is an easy-drinking ale enlivened by floral Sichuan peppercorns and local honey from an apiary near the Great Wall. The Honey Ma Gold was GLB's first brew and still our proudest creation.

Keg at the brewpub. Clear golden, small head. Interesting spicy pear aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Pear and citrus, notes of sichuan pepper and butter. Low bitterness. Interesting stuff.

Cloudy dull tan. Thick head. The aroma is full of herbs - the assertive camphorish quality of Sichuan peppercorns (the ’ma’ in honey ma). Softish body, and definitely honey-sweet, again with that herbal character all over the palate. I think the spice brings a bit too much bitterness across the palate, but there are days when this beer is very appealing.
