Bottled (2nd CS/ES Beer Gathering, thanks SV!). Slightly hazy reddish amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, some madeira wine like notes along with wooden and vanillaish notes. Flavour is sweet malts, vanilla, mild spicyness, madeiralike, spicy and also has quite much alcohol filling it up. Yet very balanced.

A 2004 bottle at 13.0% abv. Cloudy brown beer, no head and utterly devoid of carbonation. But it works here. Remarkably sweet barleywine. Sweet caramel and toffee with an undercurrent of Porty red fruits. Soft sweet finish. The abv only manifesting as a warming afterglow. Unique beer!

Bottle. Pours murky brown. Nose and taste of toffee, sweet caramel, tea, dark fruits and nuts. A bit watery at times.

Bottle shared with tarheels86 and his better half. Dark copper color, no carbonation, completely flat. Aroma of caramel and strong alcohol. Thick and syrupy, extremely sweet, like flan on steroids.

Bottle @ Open Baladin, Rome. Pours unclear golden with no head. Nose is rich and vinous. Port and dark fruit. Extremely vinous and delicious. Dark fruit, port and oak. Low carbonation. Tannins. Some warmth. Complex and better than the silver for sure.

Bottled. Deep copper colour, viscous with no head. Intense cognac aroma. Sweet and soft with lots of molasses. Thick and mouthcoating oily, hugely malty with raisins and cognac. Velvetty and pleasant with mild warming alcohol. A huge beer.

Expensive freaking 2005 edition ($48). Labeled 13%. Pours with a still maple hazed color and some medium strength alcohol legs attached to the side of the glass. Some particles towards the end of the bottle. Aroma is very nice with port, madeira, chocolate syrup, prunes, raisins, fusel alcohol and butterscotch. Taste is like drinking maple syrup with port, a touch of wood, sherry, SUPER HIGH RESIDUAL SUGARS, raisins and a slightly bitter finish. Although there is noticeable alcohol in the aroma their is minimal transferred to the taste. Ungodly maple syrupy thick mouthfeel. Seriously one of the thickest beers I have ever had. Nice, but not nearly fifty bones worth of niceness.

Bottle. Vintage 2005. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweet malty dark fruit and caramel aroma with some alcoholic hints. Smooth sweetish malty dark fruit and caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty warming dark fruit flavor with some hints of alcohol and caramel in the aftertaste. Very nice.

2005 bottle, 4 years old. Gold print, 13.5%. Vinous aroma, sweet, but with some roughness to it. Almost clear dark amber colour. The flavour starts off a little sweet. Has some cookie sweetness, a little spice. The finish has a vinous bitterness. As from grape peel. The flavour is also vinous, port-like. Syrupy mouthfeel. A little alcohol burn in the finish. Interesting, but not something I enjoy immensely.

’04 Bottle thanks to gunhaver, rating #1900: Poured a reddish brown with little to no head. Aroma is sweet aged fruit, caramel malt, and boozy alcohol. Taste is amazing with sweet caramel malt, sticky sugary fruit, and more of that boozy alcohol to keep the mouth warm. This is the best Italian beer I have ever had and really left my mouth waiting for more.
