Released for the winter season, this hearty stout starts off with an espresso aroma, followed by a smooth roasted malt flavor. We age this beer for over 2 months to allow the alcohol to mellow and the flavors to balance. Despite the beers alcohol content (8.0%) and intense flavor, this beer remains smooth and very drinkable.

Thanks Nate.
Bottle to snifter, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that held and then slid off at a semi-slow pace. Not much lace, somewhat stringy, but sliding.
The aroma had some sweet caramel/toffee malts, roasted dark malts, espresso roasty and sweet contours, some nuts, light toast, biscuits, sweet wood, smooth earthiness, milk chocolate and ended with a little bit of coffee creamer.
The flavor did a pretty good job of blending all of the prior mentioned aromas to slide together on into the aftertaste and follow through into the finish.
The feel was about medium bodied, perhaps a touch under with a fair sipping sort of quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Pretty smooth along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good imperial stout that packs in all of what one is looking for in the style.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium creamy beige head that leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is chocolate, raisin, and toffee. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet roasted malt and dark chocolate. Decent.

2010 Vintage Bottle, Purchased 30 July 2011, Sampled 15 February 2013 Deep pitch black coloured head with a thin, fast-dying light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, anise, fennel, nuts, caramel, vanilla, oak and a bit of prunes. Full-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavour with some coffee, nuts, caramel and a lot of anise and licorice flavours. Aftertaste shows some alcohol burn, a hint of peat and smoked flavours with a prolonged caramelised sugar flavour and a bit more alcohol. Overall, a strong and roasty beer with some good imperial stout flavours, but perhaps a bit too much alcohol burn and not enough complexity - especially after three years. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 30-July-2011 for US$9.00 sampled at home in Washington on 15-February-2013.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle date but this is a winter release so it must be pushing a year old. Pours dark as night with a fairly dense 1 finger tan head with nice retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lasts. Some nice lacing clings all around the glass as well. Aromas of big dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, molasses, smoked wood, and a bit of dark fruit. Some very nice and interesting aromas for an RIS here, nice balance as well. Taste of tons of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, smoke, wood, caramel, and light dark fruits. Good amount of coffee-like bitterness present on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, and wood for a decent amount of time. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly nice and creamy mouthfeel that drinks smoothly for the level of alcohol. Alcohol is nicely hidden as well, didn’t really notice anything other than a slight warming on the finish. Overall this was an excellent and unique Russian Imperial Stout. Tons of nice complexity and balance.

Pours black with a nice head, light brown and creamy. The aroma is a tad weak, but what’s there is nice. There’s dark chocolate, caramel, roast and some mild dark malt fruitiness. The beer has a big, excellent flavor once it hits your tongue. It’s full of dark chocolate syrup and roast with a citrus hop note in the finish. The beer is smooth and has a wonderful classic imperial stout flavor. Everything meshes together nicely and there’s little booze. No real rough edges to be found, either. Sweetness is just right. Smooth and creamy, the beer is thick on the palate.

Draught: Poured a black color with brown head. Aroma was coffee intertwined with chocolate. The taste is hoppy up front that leads to chocolate and light coffee bean finish.

Coffee and tree bark nose with a chocolate undercurrent. Black with a thick firm brown head with good retention and glass adherence. Horehound and coffee with licorice hints. Full bodied, somewhat thick, mouth filling. Dusty aloe finish, but subdued. Prety neat impy, has character and balance. Hits all its marks with a little oompf.
