Exploding with hop flavor and aroma, this citrus/piney/floral ale has enough of a malt backbone to stand up to the intense bitterness.

Cask @ Flying Saucer KC. Milky, cloudy, yellow brown appearance with an ivory head. Fairly piney, slightly earthy hoppy nose. A little citrusy, piney, bitter hoppy, slightly bready flavor. Bitter, piney aftertaste.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. Pours a hazy orange color with a large frothy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Huge pineapple and citrus notes in the aroma with a dark resiny finish. Reminiscent of tar but not necessarily in a bad way. The taste is tropical and citrus hops with a bitter finish. That tar note is here also, and this time it is offensive. Medium bodied. Weird beer.

Bottle via a trade (marked as packaged on 05/03/11). Pours with a murky yellow-orange body and a large, just off-white head with decent lace and good staying power. Aromas of pine, tropical fruits, peach, passion fruit and iced tea. Light lemon zest, a bit of a toasty malt profile. Nice. Flavors of hops, peach, stone fruit, citrus zest, light pine. Medium bitterness with an overall bitter balance. Malt profile is bready and crackery. A bit of an alcohol character. Medium to slightly fuller body, medium to medium-high carbonation. Dry. Well made.

12 oz bottle purchased at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas. Brewed with love on 05 03 2011. Pour is a lightly hazed golden with a frothy two inch white head. Aroma is catty resin, grass, slight floral and a toasty malt. Taste is the resin cattiness right away, turning to a bitter citrus peel, than a bunch of the earthy grass finishing with a thinner toasted malt. Palate is medium to thin bodied, chewy mouth feel, and the dry bitter finish. Started nice, though I was hoping for a bit more body and flavor to the finish. Regardless, nice beer.

Whole Foods Market, DC six-pack ($13): Pours on the lighter side of IPAs with a white head. Aroma of citrus and floral hops. The taste of this beer is rather good. I like the fact that it is on the milder and more subdued side of IPAs.There are hops, but they don’t really go in for the kill; instead, this is a sort of more malt-centric IPA. Really floral and mellow and easy to drink quite a few of these in a rather short period of time.

Great hazy copper and orange tinted body with a thin tan head. Aroma of mild yeast, honey, malt, citrus and a bit of pine - not too much hops noticeable. Medium-bodied; Assertive hop flavour at first with a perfumey and honey bite and a good malt backbone and a tiny amount of grassy tastes. Aftertaste is mild, yet hoppy with some sweet flavours and a little perfume and resin flavours near the end. Good balance of malt and hops and a pleasant amount of sweetness. Overall, nice but could use a lot more hops, then again, I could have drank this a bit quicker. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Ye Olde Spirit Shop in Frederick, Maryland on 29-July-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 16-March-2011.

I picked this up while in Warsaw, IN, enjoyed at home in Chicago. I wish Schlafly would have distribution here. Pour is a vibrant orange/amber mixture with a thin white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is just very rich in hops but also has nice caramel notes. Taste is unbelievably smooth for an 8% ABV, and it is rather sweet for an IPA but still retains a good amount of bitterness while being very crisp. Very happy to have picked this up.

Re-rate from enjoying this as part of a sampler at the Schlafly Tap Room in St Louis, MO. Appearance very bright cloudy gold with a rich white head.
Aroma like a smelly, sweaty gym sock from stinky hops. Mostly hops in the nose and not much else but its not bad, its potent.. Taste is pretty smooth with a bitter bite. The ’earthy’ hops are the central component for sure, also a bit of orange citrus and faint malts in the back end. This is a pretty good one, nicely carbonated and full flavored.

Sample at The Royale in St. Louis as part of "The Funk" Tuesday beer tasting. This beer pours a clear amber color with a medium thick foamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Sticky top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Piney hops aroma with some malt notes. Medium body with a moderately bitter piney hops taste along with flavors of caramel malt and grapefruit. The finish is hoppy with a citrus aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle from a trade with phaleslu. Bottled on 6/8/10. Pours clear orange copper color with off white head. Grapefruit rind aroma. Bitter grapefruit flavor with some sweet caramel. Chewy body with moderate carbonation. Seems more like a DIPA to me. Thanks Peter.
