You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey.

Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery.

As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops.

Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Malts: Malto Franco-Belge Pils Malt, Weyerman Acidulated, White Wheat, Demerara Sugar

Hops: Simcoe, Columbus, Palisades, Amarillo

Yeast: Belgian Abbey

Original Gravity: 21.5 Plato

12 oz. bottle with a best by date of 6/20/2017. Clear in color gold within lasting head in a chalice. Aroma is sugar, honey, and weak yeast.

Flavor shows a sweetness from sugar and yeast. Carbonation gives a mild effervescent feel over the pilot. Flavor and aroma run hand in hand. Doesn’t have the huge yeast character that a Belgian would have. It is ok.

Very well done, with well balanced coriander and florals. This is much better than some of their stuff I had a couple years ago - good to see them coming along. Golden hazy pour, thickish consistency. Light sweet finish. Very drinkable. Bottle from Chevy Chase.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a dark golden-amber color with a small foamy white head that faded quickly but left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy table sugar, apricot and pear. The flavor was sweet and tangy table sugar, apricot, pear, bread, yeast and had a pleasant boozy presence that really worked well. Long tangy finish of golden fruits, table sugar, yeast and booze. Full bodied. Very respectable.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, best before 3/1/2014. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, pineapple, tangerine, peach, pear, clove, pepper, light banana, floral, light honey, light pine, bread, candi sugar, and floral/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, yeast, and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, pineapple, peach, pear, clove, banana, pepper, floral, bread, light honey, candi sugar, light bubblegum, and floral/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, clove, pepper, bread, light banana, light honey, candi sugar, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice dry hopped Tripel style. All around nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with a small white head that leaves ok lacing. Aroma is faint fruity, honey. Flavor is much the same, light sweet with light bitterness coming in in the finish definite honey notes. Light body, creamy mouthfeel, abv well hidden. Not bad, but a bit boring.
