You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey.

Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery.

As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops.

Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Malts: Malto Franco-Belge Pils Malt, Weyerman Acidulated, White Wheat, Demerara Sugar

Hops: Simcoe, Columbus, Palisades, Amarillo

Yeast: Belgian Abbey

Original Gravity: 21.5 Plato

Bottle at the Funky 8, Brooklyn, NYC. Big doughy malt character. Very sweet. Pretty typical tripel. I wouldn’t want to drink this all day, but in moderation it’s fine.

Bottle: Poured an hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of fruity ester with light peppery yeast and sweet malt is quite nice. Taste is a nice balanced mix between some sweet malt with notes of peppery yeast and fruity ester and a dry finish. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very good interpretation of the style and nice level of complexity.

(bottle) hazy pale yellow with a small white head; aromas of grapefruit, bit of basement aroma; slightly sweet start, nice fruitiness, well masked alcohol, long light bitter finish, very interesting American hops take on a triple, quite tasty

12 ounce bottle. As usual with triples I delayed drinking this because I generally don’t love the style. Turns out, this is good. Pours a mostly clear golden color with a medium white head. A big nose of banana and oranges, some grains. The flavor is immensely hoppy for style with oranges and citrus, no bitterness, light pepper. Very damn smooth. Drank cellar temperature which might have helped.

Bottle at Chriso’s Easter tasting 2012. It pours golden yellow, with a decent white head. The nose is floral, sweet malt, spice and herb. The taste is very fruity - pear, melon, nectarine, tinned peach and floral, with a dry, warming finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Too sweet and hot.

Dull tan and not much head. The nose is quite spicy, with light alcohol and clean bready malts. The taste is sweeter than the aroma lets on, with lots of papaya/pineapple tropical fruits, alcohol, background malt and spices. the alcohol dries the finish out a lot.

12 ounce bottle from Ye Old Spirit Shop in Frederick, MD. Pours a clear dark golden color with floating particles. Thin white head. Average head retention. Aroma of bread, yeast, apples, spice, citrus, butterscotch, caramel. The taste is tart bready notes, apples, citrus, toast, caramel, candi sugar. Medium bodied. Solid.
