ZBF 2010: Blond coloured brew with some slightly sour taste, going for an Lambic appearance.

Bizarre brew with wine yeast and no hops, made for the Zythos Bierfestival 2010. Loose, snow white head, yellow colour with greenish hue, completely hazy. Weird but not unattractive aroma of white grapes, orange, sour cream, dried apricots, spicy notes, sorrel. Relatively complex taste beginning with a strong, fresh fruitiness of gooseberries, redcurrants and pineapple, then becoming acid in a gentle, lactic way, smooth, finishing in a dry sourishness - thank God it still has a finish at all, considering the absence of hops. Interesting experience from a brewery which paved the way for the many experimental micro breweries we see in the Low Countries today.

8/10/10/9//10

Thanks to Kris at De Dolle, sampled at the brewery from a glass he gave us. Bit of grape and perfume on the aroms, even a bit of pate. Pinot noir flavour is good in the mouth and the sourness on the finish is good. Bit too sour and wine influenced for me though.

Draught at Zythos Beer Festival 2010. Cloudy orange yellow, medium white head, decent lacing. Aroma of rising bread, orange peel. Taste is sweet-sour, full bodied, with apricot and peach skins. A successful experiment, I think.

Hazy bright yellow colour. Lightly acidic aroma. Very much a sweet and sour flavour Citric acid catches back of throat. Interesting but not worth repeating.

On tap at Zythos Beer Festival 6th March 2010 Unusual aroma that I found to be both yeasty and cheesy, one of our group said that she got Bavarian smoked cheese on the nose. There is a tingly sourness in the mouth that sits on the tongue, some apricot, its tart and there is a warmth from the alcohol, its really quite fruity but its flt and lacks a bit of zest, that said I didn’t mind it. Hazy yellow with a medium white head. Sweet yeasty aroma with wheat and spices. Sweet and yeasty with berries and malt. Finished dry.
