Winter Storm may be Hugh's favorite beer in the Heavy Seas catalogue. Our winter ale draws on hops from the West Coast and the UK for its pronounced bitterness. A mix of pale and darker malts give it its tawny color and its bigger body. True to the style, Winter Storm's aroma is nutty malts and earthy hops. This is a perfect fall beer, especially because of its warming qualities.

I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!

It pours from 12oz bottle a slightly hazy medium gold/brown with a very small head of foam that left the scene quickly. Just a ring around the glass and some spotting left after about a minute.

The smell is about equal portions of sweet malt and citrus hops.

The taste on first sips gives me a very large caramel malt flavour and some alcohol. A few more sips in and the hops take their place with both grass and grapefruit and some earthy flavour is there as well. It has a medium mouthfeel and it finishes with a healthy dose of grass. A pretty good sipper here but I think the alcohol isn't as well hidden as in other brews of similar abv. Too much warming in the throat.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market, Haverhill, MA. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, bread, dough. Appearance is beautiful, clear amber with no sparkle, finger-width off-white foamy head with poor retention and leggy lacing. Taste is moderately sweet with alcohol that’s a little bit astringent, then caramel end. Palate is medium bodied with average texture, lively late carbonation at tip of tongue and crisp slightly bitter finish. Overall, very true to style--straightforward maltiness.
