Notes from July 2009 On cask. Took home a baby growler from New Beer. I think it was around $9 & change for 22 ounces. With Otter Creek's track record, maybe I should of stuck to a random sixpack & a whole lot of samples instead? Into my Ommegang stem it goes. Decent settling on a cask for once. Still not bright, but better then the chunky-style minestrone I get served from time to time. A very slightly hazed brown amber, with just a trace of comb-over. It's probably going to be flat. There was just a hint at carbonation at the store, so I'm guessing giving it a few hours for me to catch my breath was assuming too much. Upfront sweet tea scent, followed by a cheesy crouton & pesto herbal quality. Soggy grapefruit rind. Ugly, greasy butter. Isopropyl itches my nose. Taste it totally different, though it's questionable if it's any better. Sweet cracker & minor caramel upfront, followed by grappa burn, ending in total astringent grapefruit rind stickiness. It lingers, drying any past syrupy notions to the bone. It sticks around like residual mouthwash. First time I've had hops lose so little in the format change. So lopsidedly bitter, the hops had a hard time being anything more then straight bitter. I faintly remember sharing a bottle of this & thinking better of it. Or maybe I just want what I can't have(my ten dollars back).

Hazy orange-amber color; generous head, compact. Nice aroma: toffee, grains; the hop is still lightly fruity, and a bit resiny. Sweet caramel, malt and toffee combination, strong flavor; the hopping is bold, mellow, a bit resiny and biscuity too. The final is powerful, more resiny now, very long. Maybe not too fresh, but it held up pretty well.
Unfortunately, another bottle that I maybe spoiled, keeping it too long (since Oct ’09), waiting to share it...

Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops, straw, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and lemon, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Cask @ Boston/NY 2009. Clear golden orange color, short head. Very bitter, grapefruit and pine. Harsh bitter taste. Although I prefer more balanced instead of harsh bitter DIPAs, I liked this one.

Bomber. Pours medium amber with a high foamy off-white head. Nice hoppy aroma. Medium body with sharp carbonation. Flavor is a lot of mixed hop - like citrus and resin - with some floral coming up after a bit. It’s bitter. 135 IBU is believable. It’s a great ale. The hop is harsh, but very pleasing. Would not hesitate to do this again.

Bottle. Amber beer with a big cream colored head. Light summer fruit and light grapefruit aroma with light malt. Caramel and grapefruit flavor with pine and some herbal tones. Medium-plus bodied. Good bitterness. herbal notes linger with caramel, grapefruit, and light pine. Alcohol noticeable and too much in forefront.
