A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and coffee. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of roasted malt, and coffee, that gets weaker as it runs thru the mouth. The end is dry and roasted, and underway the carbondioxide tickles the tongue.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours an opaque, cloudy black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt. Medium body - a bit heavy on the CO2. Roasted malt notes, some vanilla and a discreet bitterness in the finish. Smooth and pleasant. 061006

Bottle Pours a nearly opaque black with redish brown edges. Nice full creamy light tan head and heavy sheets of sturdy lacing. Aroma is that dark roasted malts, sweet prunes, grape jelly. A slightly sour slant as well. It tastes pretty middle of the road, dark roast, but not over the top. Some coffee and old campfire. Not overly bittered but not very strong either. Smooth but not very heavy feel. Nicely balanced basic stout. Thanks for the tradeKenb

Draught at Six Arms, Seattle Very deep brown; tenacious small yellowish head. Dark malts; I get peanuts again, as in the porter. Very surprising fruity flavour, as if the raspberry beer was mixied in, but that would make it too weak. No bitterness discernible whatsoever. Very little roastedness too. Slightly lactic/wheat acidity retronasal. Creamy MF, not empty. TERMINATOR? Yes, it was, I left the pub.

Draught at White Eagle, Portland. Near black. Vague coffee aroma. Sweet with mellow, syrupy mouthfeel, some molasses are there. Harsh resiny finish. Simplistic.

Bottle. Malty, sweet liquorice aroma. Black colour, small head. Flavour is malty with a distinct liquorice flavour. A bit thin and not too interesting. Probably could have been fresher.

On tap at Ringler’s Pub, Portland, sampled 6 August 2004. Deep muddy brown body, thin-medium cream-colored head. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate notes and fairly sweet caramel character. Flavor of rich roasted malt, chocolate, and a touch of caramel and brown sugar. Lightly sweet and full-flavored, even though the body is relatively thin. Very quaffable.

Dark brown. Mild chocolate aroma. Nutty, chocolatey body is quite mild, a bit smooth and with an off-dry finish. Straightforward, porterish.
