We welcomed the challenge of brewing a 90 IBU Imperial IPA that would showcase glorious American hops while maintaining a multi-dimensional character. Bring on the hops!

Description
This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. We used a mix of our favorite American hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo to create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon’s proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer’s massive aroma.

(bottle, 35.5cl, with thanks to Jonas!) Clear, golden colour with a short and slightly off-white foamy head. Fruity and ethereally minty hoppy aroma with notes of apricots, tangerine and an exotic touch, backed by a discreetly malty background. Sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Moderately (cara-)malty base with fruity and spicy hops, leading into a medium-dry bitter-sweet rounded malty and rich hoppy finish with a fruity and minty aftertaste. Even refreshing despite its abv. Quaffable stuff. 08.XII.10

Bottle: Poured a copper with off white head. Aroma is hoppy. The taste is a nice mixed blend of malt and hops. Right in line with the east coast IIPAs. Not a full out assault on the tongue, but a nice special forces bite.
