Bourbon Barrel Amber Ale

What began with our flagship Boont Amber Ale and a passion for experimentation has become a unique addition to our Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Barl Series. The six month aging process in third-use Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels imparts flavors of coconut and vanilla and subtle bourbon aromas that are enhanced by a noticeable oak character in the finish. A great accompaniment to fine meals or to be enjoyed on its own, Boont Barl is a truly sessionable barrel-aged beer with finesse.

tap mad mex. Big & black it seems. Smells a little tart, makes my mouth water. No tartness on taste. Rather more mild than expected. Very little co2. Yes, some whisky in thar. Per haps too much whisky barrel effects.

Deep amber color. Very malty nose with some bourbon, not that outstanding. The mouth the heavy, kinda reminds me of baijou and the bourbon is sutble. Kinda odd, but I don’t dislike. Not bad

154 tap @ Beer Temple, sample size. Amber to red color, slightly hazy. Dense, stiff, light beige head with good retention and lacing. Aroma:s red fruit, vanilla, wet wood. Retronasal: sweet, vanilla, red fruit, tannines. Flavor is moderate sweet, woody, light bitter. Light to medium bodied, good actually for 6%. Finishes with wood, tannines, mildly bitter. Bourbon barrel aging is still better with RIS & BW’s but this isn’t bad at all!

Drank an entire 22 oz of this. Poured a clear amber color with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma was some woody vanilla notes. Plenty of oak. Light sweet malts. Flavor was light vanilla and oak. Light caramel and toffee. Alcohol content is lower than many barrel aged beers, so the base beer is lost a bit in this. I liked the heavy wood notes, but I think it could have been a bit more balanced.

On tap @ Beer Temple. A really cloudy one this, deep almost amber bronze brown in the glass and it has a nice seriously lacing beige head on the top. Mild aroma. Milder than I'd expect really. Some sweetness detected, alcohol, wood, a mild roasted hint in the back. Mild but nice. Tastes lots more than it smells like. Sweetish and malty. Subtle hints of vanilla, oak and chocolate milk in the background Mmmh.. Soft and gentle on the carbonation and it's nice and light oily in the mouth. Ends with thinned down red berries and hints of zest. Easy to drink, but definitely not a huge flavor bomb in any way. 25.09.2014
