Bottle thanks to MrHangover! Pours clear orange amber with a small tan head that disispates with nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, grass, floral, berries. Flavor about the same, just a touch of bourbon, maybe some pine. Medium sweet, some zesty bitterness lingering though the far finish. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Warming on the palate.

Deliciously warm barley wine. The bourbon smoothly shines through the beer with soft notes of vanilla. Really great.

33cl bottle picked up at De Molen (bottled on Nov. 15, 2012, 10.2% ABV). It was filled nearly to the cap and poured out into my big fat Sierra Nevada tulip glass with a fully opaque deep copper body that supports a very thin near white ring of tiny bubbles. The aroma is overall sweetness that’s cut by a decent level of red wine like barrel tartness. Additional whiffs just bring up more and more red wine tartness nuanced slightly by bourbon, spicy oak, vanilla and slivers of raisins and prunes. The taste conveys this same modest tart red wine infected barrel note. Behind that I can at times taste sweet dark fruity esters mixed with bourbon and sweetened oak.

33cl bottle from Menno at Kent Beer Festival 2013. Wow, I mean just wow. Thank you Menno so much. Now many people think I don’t like barrel aged beers, and that’s not true, what I dislike is badly barrel aged beers, in the same way I don’t like badly made bitters or golden ales. However, this is a really good barrel aged beer. The vanilla and coconut on the aroma from the barrel blends perfectly with the crystallised fruit tangerine aroma from the barley wine. That is some kind of aroma. In the mouth it’s smooth. The finish is a little more challenging, a bit of bourbon without doubt, the barley wine fullness and smoothness is still there with the Satsuma and tangerine fruit. More vanilla on the finish. Slight woodiness is balanced by a sweet/tart Satsuma flavour. Slightly dry even with the sweetness of the alcohol. Frankly the whole package is simply stunning. Wow. It’s big, bold and rather beautiful.

Bottle from Ølbutikken. Hazy orange with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, wood and bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 130713

Bottle 330ml. @ home.Clear medium to dark amber orange colour with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly - fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, fruity, dried fruit, sweet dried fruit, wood, fruity vanilla, light wine, light to moderate alcohol - bourbon. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, light light acidic and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, grape - wine tart, dried fruit sweet, sharp, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic - bourbon. [20130423]

Full bodied, with a nice flavor of malt and toffee, medium sweetness; mild vanilla character; it has although a light sourness that is out of tune; strong bitterness without excess, and warming alcohol.
Good, but a bit strange.

Bottle. Tight, foamy head on orange-amber beer. Nose of caramel, toffee, oak, cherry, adic, minerals. Weird, interesting, wood and barrel flavors coming though. More old world barrel, though, with not a huge bourbon character. Good.

33 cl bottle @ home (live rating). Copper/amber color, clear. Head is off white, quickly receding. Aroma’s: caramel, sour fruit, some vanilla/oak. Retronasal the sour fruit is more upfront. After some time the vanilla & bourbon becomes more apparent. Flavor is medium sour with some malty sweetness and wood notes. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Medium bodied. In the finish there’s bourbon in the nose with a light bitterness on the tongue. Not too great.
