"As others have done before me I also thought that brewing my own beer would be a nice way to celebrate this milestone of beer rating. After rating 10000 beers I can say that, while it continues to change slightly, my favourite styles are (Imperial) IPA and Imperial Stout. In order to be able to enjoy this beer for a longer period of time I chose to brew an Imperial Stout rather than an (Imperial) IPA. The intention was to brew a full bodied, roasty imperial stout with hints of coffee and chocolate. All parties involved have agreed that if that’s not the case, I am the one to blame ;) Huge thanks to Colin (dEnk) / 8-Bit for creating a recipe with me and brew a testbatch. Thanks André (Dutchdrebus) for creating the label. And last but certainly not least: huge thanks to Erwin & Jaap from Van Moll for going out of their way for me to make this happen. Enjoy! ~ René / Benzai

Tap @ Van Moll. Almost black. Coffee, caramel cocos and chocolate in the aroma. Thinnish, sharply alcoholic. Malty sweet flavor with licorice, caramel, roast and bounty bars. Not perfect, but characterful, so a worthy #10000 for Benzai.

Bottle shared with Benzai. Toffee and chocolate notes. Jet black with a decent beige head. A touch on the sour side, balsamic, but expected for the age and style. Sourness actually works out OK I. This case. Happy to be one of the last people to try these all side by side.

Bottle, thanks Benzai! Black pour, brown creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, cream, mocha and choco. Taste has creamy roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some tannine red fruit. Nice chocolately creamy beer, nicely made. Tried a bottle on room temperature as well, the fruity tartness makes the beer resemble a nice tawny port. Test batch is a bit more creamy and boozy, with more chocolate. Well done.

Flesje gedeeld met Tom, Benzai en Roelzie1986. Diep donkerbruin helder bier. Aroma van chocolade en koffie. Ook in de smaak komt de koffie- en chocoladesmaak duidelijk naar voren. Weinig nasmaak.

Tasting at Mr Smith’s Skyflat. Thanks to Paul. Almost opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and has good fine carbonation. Fluffy dark malts, touch of roast. Earthy and slightly tangy coffee. Trace of malt cream. Some plums and dark berries Light semi dry finish. Earthy coffee. Tasty.

From bottle at Winterbierfestival Gouda 2016, courtesy of Benzai, thanks a lot! Sweetish-malty, slightly sourish aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, red grapes and some oak. Sweetish-malty, slightly sourish taste of dark chocolate, molasses, red grapes and some wood, followed by a short, slightly tart finish. Medium body, slightly creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Bottle shared at Winterbierfestival Gouda by Benzai himself. Black with tan head. Sour berries, roasted grains, cocoa beans, toast, bretty pineapple, sour red wine. Medium sweet, light roasted bitter finish and almost medium sour throughout. Over medium bodied. Quite nice, even though it’s obviously not meant to be sour it doesn’t completely ruin the beer. Thanks Benzai!
