Bottle sample at a tasting at Alexey’s place. Thanks Vova. Cloudy yellow. Aroma of fruity hops, slightly stale, yeast, and some esters. Flavor has some yeast, fruity esters, light tartness, and mild hoppy bitterness. Light to medium-bodied. Decent.

Many thanks for this beer to kevnic2008. Piwo o ladnej trwalej i czapowatej piance, ladnym mglistym slomkowym kolorze. W zapachu pomarancze. W smaku troch jakby bergamotki, niedojrzalego banana i posmak cytrusowy. Chmiele fajnie wyczuwalne, delikatne sie je odczuwa. Finisz orzezwiajacy i lekki.

"Mit dem extravaganten flair der Côte d’Azur", the back label shouts. Weird ’lifestyle’ beer, apparently a wheat beer made after the Reinheitsgebot, but clearly this is indeed an American-style wheat ale rather than a Bavarian Hefeweizen. Pours a cloudy, peachy ochre blonde under a moussy, thinnish, egg white head. Aroma discloses American-style citrusy hops in the first place; impressions of fresh orange juice and fresh pink grapefruit, something not unlike ’fresh fish’, soap, clear wheat all around, passion fruit, fruit yoghurt, banana, vanilla extract, limoncello. Soft and refreshing taste of sourish wheat (quite strong), supple, bready malt sweetishness, estery fruitiness (sour apples, lime, starfruit, peach, unripe plum), yeasty and very bready, lactic kind of acidity accompanying this simple but agreeable sweetness, evolving towards a wheaty, somewhat tart finish in which the expressive and aromatic hops come along without disturbing the sweet and sour play, so very low bitterness. In all, this is a very interesting beer, totally quenching the thirst; gentle and elegant, I have had dozens of lesser beers presenting themselves as ’trendy’. If this is the trend at the Côte d’Azur, I’m sure this German wheat brew is a fine companion for a hot summer afternoon there. Nice surprise - I had expected something Hefeweizen-like, but this is different, and it aptly illustrates the fact that even Germany nowadays has a few careful yet progressive, American-influenced micro breweries.

Many thanks to Frank for this bottle. Floral citrus-Weißbier-nose, fresh and not too sweet. The beer starts floral with a nice fresh fruity yeast. Smooth, but the Weißbier-aroma with the yeast covers lots of the hoppy floralness, which seems to be nice, but is hidden below the smooth and fruity-sourish layer of yeast. Smooth, nearly no bitterness, fresh, easy to drink but the nice floral hops are covered. Nevertheless a nice Weißbier - lots of fruity smooth yeast, clove, not too much banana and a nice floral hoppy layer in the background, getting a bit more bitter till the end. Nice!
