500 ml bottle. Lovely ruby red color topped by a thick rocky beige head with clinging lace. Wonderful smoky malt aroma reminiscent of a woodsy campfire. Upfront their are notes of bittersweet chocolate, charred wood and burnt raisins. Mid taste brings dark sweet caramel and smoked malt. This is a complex brew that drinks smoothly. Bitter hoppy finish complements the smokiness nicely. Wow, this is a classic and certainly the best smoked beer I have ever had. A must have.

500 ml bottle. Super gusher - minus one point. Pours a red mahogany with light head and lots of suspended sediment. Strong aromas of smoked bacon. Strong flavors of hickory smoke, sweet malts, liquorice and sweet dark fruit. Balanced for a smoky but overly smoked for something sensible.

Apparently the winter version in this fascinating series, again with the Bamberg smoked malt. Pale beige, creamy, sticky foam, colour an opaque brown with a copper hue, only visible under bright light; nose gets the same wave of smoked meat and charcoal as in the better-known Märzen version, but this time it gets more, as hints of bitter chocolate, liquorice and caramel shine through. The taste is even more surprising, as the caramel- and chocolate-like malty sweetishness dominates the first sip, only to be abruptly broken by the salty, bone-dry smokiness which lingers on till deep in the finish, which also reveals some spicy hops. Actually quite complex, especially for a lager, and in that respect perhaps even more rewarding than the classic Märzen version.

500mL bottle, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Nose is malty and smoky, with lots of dry caramel malt, lots of smoke but no ashtray. Flavour is exactly the same, with everything acting in total harmony. One of the most complex smoked beers I've had. Excellent.

At a tasting, thanks Vova, smallish head, quite clear, darkish brown colour, aroma of smoke, barbecue sauce, grilled flavour snack a,d a hint of caramel, flavour of smoked meat, charred wood and some dried fruits, mellow bitterness. Really nice and highly enjoyable.
