An intense brew first enjoyed by the British aristocracy during the Industrial Revolution. Already on the nose, you can feel the drink's thick core of lightly caramelized malts, which is refreshed by the resinous pine buds and the spooky wild rosemary. The tongue literally gets stuck in the maltiness, only to be rescued by the bitterness of the hops, all of which lingers into sticky warmth.

From a 440ml can on 8/6/2024. Pours a clear light amber with virtually no head. Smells of caramel, toffee, nuts. Tastes of caramel, toffee, honey, cinnamon and spice, ending with a firm bitterness. Syrupy mouthfeel with softish carbonation. Outstanding stuff. Very proud to be Latvian.

Bottle. BB July 2023. An unclear dark nut brown beer with a small dense beige head that lasts. Some curtains. The aroma is lightly oxidized, but it's still quite pleasant, with dark dried fruit, toffee, nuts, dark rye bread, pine cones and some resin. Some herbal hints and a little alcohol. It's full-bodied, warming and nicely carbonated, with a gentle bitterness. Nice sweetness too, balanced. Roasted malt notes, toffee, dark dried fruit, no particular fruit standing out, pine cones, resin and alcohol. Some oxidation. Lasting malt driven finish with a good hoppyness. A nice one indeed, American style Barley Wine with Double IPA notes. And it bears the age very good. 230927

Well stored bottle. God looking, clear brown body under a dense beige head. Aroma has malt, dry fruit, pine, herbs and myrica gail. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, herbs, distinct myrica gail and moderate bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden. Fine body with long lasting, herbal aftertaste. Original, fun and tasty take on the barley wine.

Based on new checklist, sadly not on video. Got from alko shop some time back. Weird, it seems to have import stickers from Norway (Sterkøl TROLLSKOG + description). Guess it traveled from Latvia to Norway and then back to Latvia :D Best before date is still fine for few years. Smell- caramel, sweet, yeast, peppermint, herbal. Foam-head is small, creamy orange, white brown color. Feels thick to medium thick, some alco notes, some bitter notes. Appearance- hazy, orange, brown amber. Taste- sweetness, caramel, malt, alcohol, bitter-sweetnes, warmth, thickness, some more of that biting-ish bitterness. Feels stronger, even when it is 11,4%, generally alcohol + bitter-sweetness + herbal notes. Might be fine with something, sadly I was going in dry, while it seems like complex one, maybe it is not my type. Old score (1.9.2019: 6/3/6/5/13 = 3.1 New quick rate from can. 04.05.2023: Smell - weak malt, faint herbal tones. Foam - Thin, caramel, malt, sweetness, herbal tones, bitter tones. Head is medium-sized, orange-white in color. Appearance - brewer can, clear-ish red-orange amber in color, medium carbonation. Taste -sweetness, caramel, herbal tones, malt, hops, bitter-herbal tones, alcohol. I like it more this time. 5/3/7/4/14=3.3
