Marbendill is the result of a very fun day at the brewery with Stulli and Hylgur from Borg Brugghús in Iceland. As with all our collabs, the recipe is a bit out there. This time we took a Baltic porter-inspired base, but fermented it 100% with Brettanomyces yeast.
The result is an interesting beer with a complex pallet of red fruits, chocolate, dark roast and spices. Weird, in a good way, just as the Marbendill itself, the half-man/half-seal creature that is said to roam Icelandic waters.

Bottle. Color: Bit hazy murky bron, beige head. Aroma: Red fruit, roasted malt, spicy, Brett funk. Taste: Red and dark fruit, roasted malt, wheat malt, cocoa, spicy notes and pretty strong funky Brett. Smooth mouthfeel. Moderate sweet and medium bitterness. Slightly sour. Fruity and pretty strongly bitter roasted malt finish. Hints of bitter orange peel. Medium to above medium body, soft carbonation. Smooth (wheat) and pretty dense (oat) mouthfeel. Definitely not a standard Porter, not even a standard Bretty Porter. Quite unique taste, like more beers from De Kromme Haring. I like it.

Leer, chocola, funky, mineralig. Wat aan de dunne kant misschien. Roast komt later ook door. Interessant, mooi in balans

Sampled from tap at Van Moll Fest 2018. Slightly hazy, reddish brown with an off-white head. Sweetish-malty, yeasty aroma of milk chocolate, caramel, toasted nuts and clove. Quite sweet, malty, a little roasty taste of milk chocolate, caramel, toasted nuts and a touch of clove, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy and a bit yeasty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite okay, don't like the yeasty touch though, the brett doesn't really fit in here in my opinion.

Sampled @ Van Moll Fest 2018. Dark brown color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, plant like, green plants, sweetness in the distance, sugary a bit, something weird liquorice in the distance. Meh. Weird. 6-3-6-3-10.
